The person Named above Was my Grandfather born 1861 at Tunstal Lodge Burdon Durham registered sub district of Easington . Served apprenticeship as blacksmith with Mr Brown @ Cleadon smithy Married at 20yrs to Alice [Bell ] Isabella Nicholson @ Sunderland parish church 3rd April 1882 two children Robert Rutter Jnr and william , Lived @ 56 Rothsay St Monkwearmouth .
Alice died at Thirsk 1889 children left in care of Grandparents Mr & Mrs Nicholson Robert Moved to Sussex married Emma Jane Bacon @ Broadwater parish church 1891 stating on mariage cert that he was bachelor I managed to trace the two sons of first marriage up to 1901 census but am confused by 1911 census as they aé entered as Mrs Nicholsons sons ?? not Grandsons as in 1901 unable to find any trace in B M D does someone Know what happened to these boys who bwould have been half brothers to my Father

That has to be her on the 1891 census as daughter of Dorothy Nicholson and mother of Robert & William Bainbridge but you say on your tree on Ancestry that he married Emma Jane Bacon April 1891. The census was 5 April 1891.

I don't have a sub, but piece rg12/836 covers Broadwater, 2km N of Worthing.

The death in Thirsk was suggested by someone on one of the poster's other threads, and he obviously accepted it without checking anything

RB declared he was a bachelor when he married in 1891............so, a bigamist

I would like to thank all those who have been contributing to my request for information I am not very good with PC or researching but with your help I have more threads to follow ie, Was Robert R W P Bainbridge a Bigamist or were he and Alice divorced He obviously was not legaly Married to both women at same time He lied on marriage certificate when he married Emma Jane about his Marital status and his Fathers occupation as Vetinery Surgeon ?? Just to complicate things even further He appears to have abandoned Emma and children after 1910 the last confirmed record I can find of him He was not recorded at family home 1911 Census Emma was Head with 2 sons & 2 female Boarders
I want to get to bottom of this but it is getting more and more difficult and I am not getting any younger Thanks again to you all
