Assuming the 1911 posted by rootgatherer is correct, George couldn't possibly be widowed on 2 Apr 1911 (census date) if Ellen was born on 24 Sep 1911.

Perhaps her mother/his wife was living with someone else and had taken their name?

Janette ..............

where did you get your information on the family birth dates and places?

The only marriage I can find for a George Redfern to an Ellen was in 1907, and that was to an Ellen Lunn. They are on the 1911 Census, married 2 years, no children.

HI sorry tobe a pain again,
Ellen Redfern born sheffield 1911
her brother Alfred Redfern born 1909
when he married in 1931 wedding certificate says he was living at 6/10 Hoyle street.

But the family living at this addresswas a family called Gabbitas.
Ada Gabbitas born 1887
married WalterRedfern born 1887 married 1908
Walter Redfern was the uncle to Ellen Redfern and Alfred Redfern.
so do you think the Redfern family moved in with the Gabbitas family as lodgers due to possibility of being poor.

re- Ellen Redfern born 1880-
there is a Ellen Redfern in the 1891 census
living with a James & Jane Middleton as adopted daughter
As far as I can see Jane was a Redfern before she married.
Just a thought as there was no father's name on the birth cert

All defendants pleaded guilty, and Pearce and Redfern said they had just been demobilised, and were in need of coal. The magistrates fined the defendants 5s each. They understood it was the first it was prosecution of it's kind in Sheffield, and they hoped it would be the last.
