Sheila, consider the death record I posted for William Henry Major

that looks like him to me ... there is no William Henry Major birth to match that info

the certificate might give the name, relationship and address of a family member who was the informant


... no wait ... that death was more likely this birth, given the location

your husband's parent was a child of the Major-Cole marriage and thus younger than WHM Roberts? ... but never knew that uncle?

in that case it might seem likely that he died in childhood ...

Sheila you can order birth certificates and specify that the mother's surname must be Cole

I forget whether there is a partial charge or no charge if no matching birth is found

you could try the ones mentioned by Gins for instance
