Hello Rose, nice to see you on here again, remember me.Dont know why I get family lines that give me problems. No I have not found William Fitch prior to 1861, If I could have found a marriage to him and Elizabeth I thought I may have something to go by. Looking at his age in 1861 must say he looks old, so does Elizabeth so perhaps it is a second marriage for them both..

Dismissing John and Elizabeth Row from Sussex because found living in Tunbridge Kent in 1871 and still together when the Fitches lived in Gravesend in 1871

Any thoughts, or Cert. on Death I posted earlier?...

Does it give same 'Row' surname for Mother on William Butcher Fitch?...

Chris :)

John Report 7 Jun 2016 18:10

Hi Chris. I do not know about William Butcher Fitch if his mother is Elizabeth a Row because I only bought the cert for his sister Martha Butcher Fitch. Re death of William Henry Fitch 1884. The death looks like him because Peter Street where he died is in Gravesend. I live in Gravesend so I suppose I could send one of his family to try and find his grave

Hi Rose. Certainly do but had a wonderful outcome on Brian Moore and found his family who I am still in contact with. This family Fitch is my cousins husbands family so I don't know anything about them

Have you looked into Elizabeth Row (b.1826) 1841 Colchester, Stockwell Street, Father as George...

John

John Report 7 Jun 2016 20:27

Hi Chris. Yes this is the mother, she must have gone to live with her son William Butcher Fitch after her husband William died in 1884

John

John Report 7 Jun 2016 22:38

Hi Chris, no I have not seen the 1841 census for Elizabeth Row b 1826 Colchester. I suppose because of the Butcher connection been looking for Butcher, until yesterday when I received the birth certificate for Martha. Thanks will look

23 August 1867 - Dover Express - Dover, Kent, England

Northfleet.
Charge of Assault.
At the county petty sessions at Rochester, George Smith and Cornelius Hayes were charged on a summons with violently assaulting William Fitch, at Northfleet. The complainant is gardener at the Rosherville-gardens, and was drinking with his wife in a public house where the defendants also were. A quarrel arising, the two defendants set upon the complainant, and beat him in such a savage manner, that he was for some time under medical treatment.
The magistrates convicted the defendants each in a fine of £3, and costs.

Hi Chris. No I have not bought the birth cert for William Butcher Fitch because I had bought his sisters who is my cousins Great grandmother Martha Butcher Fitch. As stated in it mother Elizabeth Row. It is the name Butcher that is completely throwing me.

John ..............

we're trying to tell you that William and his sister MIGHT have different mothers named on their birth certificates!

It is entirely possible that whoever gave the information made a mistake OR thta there were 2 different mothers, but you cannot ASSUME that seeing one certificate tells you what will be on the other!
