Many thanks for the reply.

I am picking my research up after a break of some years and yes, I will have made enquiries on hear some long time back but hoped there was some new arrivals with information.

The Sands family you show are not the one I am after although I do know of them and travelled up and met with the son of David Sands, detailed above, to see if there was any connection with my family but was not the case.

My G. Grandfather William Sands was around in 1891 with his family, but after death of wife in 1895, children went into a home and he appears in 1901 census as single, a boarder. And there is my wall, I cannot trace therafter

Kathleen

That could indeed have been a possibility I had overlooked. That is my g grandfather correctly identified and his family were all ironworkers from sheffield at one time, although he was born in (H)Openshaw, Manchester in 1859.

I would need to get a copy of the death certificate to see who made the notification I presume.

John

John Report 28 Dec 2016 20:59

Rootgatherer,

Yes, you have identified him and his parents.

I dontt have access to 1881 census at the moment to see where he was at that time

Yes, the death certificate would help.

Of the two sons in the 1891 census, William Henry seems to die in age 4, and Walter seems to be in the 1911 census here:-

That William marrying in 1913 is a furnaceman and a widower. His father John (dec) was a planer?

It could possibly be him.

John

John Report 28 Dec 2016 21:03

Root.

If the person named as notifier on the death certificate has any link to the new marriage, then that could indeed be the case.

At some time there were a number of Sands families living in Brightside Bierlow, all working in the steel kills

Folks,

You are extremely helpful and bang on the mark.

1911 Census - Walter is my grandfather

Alvie - William was at one time a furnaceman and, from my old records, his father was a planer which is an ironworks activity.

John
