That does look hopeful as on the marraige cert there is no middle name or initial.Seems funny cos when I was trying to find info on Gouldens I was given info on a Matilda Goulden pauper probable sister of John Goulden in a west derby workhouse. The name just stuck with me as it was so sad.Gonna google a map to see how far it is from salford.Wanda.xx

West Darby very near Salford, and I had family in workhouse in that area too. It covers Liverpool and Wlton on the Hill. Linacre and many other areas. Perhaps they had gone adrift already? Seems odd if he is there and his Wife is till in Chorlton? Then you never know do you? I did think that Thomas Mitchell may have gone to 1914- 1918 War? Well time will tell. Keep up the search, yes the age is right and it fits in with the family issues, so we will see. I have checked up to 1924 and only one I spotted was Thomas H Mitchell in March Quarter age 32 years. Right age, wrong district: Greenwich. But who knows, if they parted he could be anywhere? Janice x

Just done a quick ancestry look and found a Thomas Mitchell born in Liverpool, which is West Derby. he is on 1901 census. So could he have originated from there and returned if his marriage was a failure? Maybe we should check that out? Tomorrow is another day and I am going to bed soon, so talk to all again tomorrow. Hello there I noticed your plea for help. Can I ask did it have what Service Harold was in? I use rootschat.com a lot they are wonderful at helping. I am sure that someone could find his records. If there are 6 Harolds. You could find his medal index card they usually show 6 to a page. It costs only £3.50 to download the info. This is from the National Archives. So you would have all 6 showing on the one page. Its possible if he is from Manchester he could have been in the Manchester Regiment. There are experts on there who have Military websites. The site is free to join you should really sign up for it. I have seen them give people lots of information from what they find. Sign up now and then you scroll down the page until you get to the list of subjects. You would click on Armed Forces and start a new topic. I am sure you will get help. best wishes Agnes

Hi Wanda Looking at the concern Willow had for the marriage of Lydia Cadden to Harold Brierley in 1916, with regard to Harold's Army Record saying he was married and leaving in 1915. I wondered if perhaps Lydia & Harold were together at some stage whilst he was in the Army 1911-1915, maybe not married but residing together in some knid of relationship. Took at look at births under Cadden & Brierley 1912-1915, just incase Lydia was Common Law wife or whatever? Found a Brierley Birth in 1914 December Quarter: Lilian A Brierley born in Bury. Mother Named as CARDEN? Wondered if it could be mistranscribed as should have been CADDEN? May not even be connected, but just a thought, it would explain why Lydia was down as Wife if they had a child. Any Ideas on that? Janice x

Wanda & Team Just checked The National Roll Of The Great War. Thinking that Thomas Mitchell died in the 1914-1915 War I thought he would be entitled to The 1914-15 Star, and The General Service and Victory Medals. Yes, he is there and he received them, or at least his Family should have. It gives him as Volunteering at the beginning of 1915, quickly drafted to the Dardanelles, and whilst taking part in the first landing on the Gallipoli Peninsula was unfortunately killed in Action in April of the same year. His address is given as 8 Back Pump Street, Hulme, Manchester. Dates differ from information given on Find my Past where his death is given as 27th June 1916. Guess with so many who lost their lives the death information took some time to filter through and they may not have been certain as to when they died. Sent this Scan to Wanda. This is definately the same man, and I think finally answers where Thomas Mitchell went, and why Mary Ellen only registered one child to Thomas Mitchell. Janice
