Hi Lesley, thanks again for your offer. Could you try to find Joseph Smith on the 1851. He would have been about 28 and was a watchmaker. He was born and lived in Coventry, he may have been married by then and his wife was Jane.(lots of Jane's and John's in this family, they are a nightmare to find). Sue

his wife should be sarah anne, born 1860 in reigate, Sheila found a Walter Huggett born in Leigh and Sarah born in Petworth but not sure if thats them now i have had time to look properly,the reason i would like to know who this walter from croydon was living with is becaus we have a few butchers from that era. regards

Hi Lesley, Could you please do a look up in the 1871 census, details known:- Mary Jane Carter born 1859. Father James Carter bn about 1828 ireland Mother Margaret Carter nee Perrin bn about 1839 Pemdleton M/c Address 1861 14 Quay St Manchester ' 1881 Ayre St Salford 1871 should show a :- James Carter bn1865 Elizabeth Carter bn abt 1857 Mary Carter ?? bn 1868 Amelia Carter bn abt 1863 I think Mary Jane mayhave died sometime between 1861 & 1881.
