Hi Helen, I hope you don't mind me e-mailing you direct but my request is a bit vague. I know I have a policeman in my tree, first name either Arthur or Frederick AGER/AGAR 1900'S. He was born Cambridgeshire. I know not much to go on. Thanks in advance. June

Stephen Report 15 May 2005 22:50

Hi Helen, I'm on the look out for anything on William BALL, Metropolitan Police: number 24833, joined 11 Oct 1847 resigned 15 Jan 1854. He was a Serjiant of Police at his daughter's wedding in 1849, when his daughter gave her address as Bridport Street (Marylebone / Paddington). Anything more on William BALL would be tremendous - I can't find him in the 1851 census. Thanks, Stephen

Maggie Report 16 May 2005 00:28

Hi Helen My Great great uncle, Philip John Giles Moyes, was listed as a metropolitan policeman in 3 censuses, which didn't make sense to me as he lived in Plymouth. I notice that you said the Metropolitan Police covered some dockyards. He was born on 23 Dec 1855 and was listed as a Metropolitan policeman on the 1881 census (Police Quarters, Keyham Yard, Stoke Damerel), 1891 census (Calstock, Cornwall) and the 1901 census (the ship 'Leda', Hamoaze (part of Plymouth sound)). I can't find his death (looked up to 1955!) If you can find any information about him I'd be very grateful - he intrigues me and has no living descendents as far as I can find out. Thanks. Maggie
