Hi Nell Wonder if you could find my GGG Grandad for me? John William Barnard I know he was a Policeman in c 1870 probably in the North or maybe East End of London, sorry to be vague, but I cannot find him in any census, and only know of him through his sons wedding certifiicate. Hello Nell My GGG Grandfather Joseph William Clark joined 28/12/1835 Warrant No 11258 and was dismissed (???) 18/5/1839 He lived in Greenwich at the time. Any help would be great Sheila

Sheila He's not listed, I'm afraid. I tried his surname and his warrant number. But I doubt you'd get more info than you already have other than by going to Kew. nell

Hello nell, sounds great, hope you can find miy rellie. His name was George adams and he was living at 4,Upper Gloucestershire Place Marylebone Middlesex in 1861 when he was aged 30. thank you and fingers crossed I would love to go to kew and find out more about him one day Thank you.

Jenny Could this be him? Do you have him on 1901 census doing something else, or was he already a policeman then? Christine He would advise the police so they would know where to send his pension! The pension details don't give any clue as to what policemen did after retiring, but I think many of them would find work as they retired in their late 40s. I know that two of my policemen uncles ran pubs. Security work is another option. I suppose you could try to work back from where he and his next of kin died? sorry I can't be more help. nell

Would appreciate anything you might have on James Leeder BISHOP. Joined Met between 1891 and 1901 when he lived at Wandsworth. He retired before June 1932. His Pension ref no. was 1/24869, if that helps. Many thanks, Chris

Hi Nell Should have thought to ask you this at Kew on Saturday, but would there be a Matthew Drake on your records. Definitely in the Metropolitan Police 1871-1874. Don't have Warrant Number, as he is not an ancestor, but Witness to my G.G. Grandparents wedding. Some of the details on the wedding certificate are a bit puzzling, so I'm exploring all angles!! Put me at the bottom of your list, but when (if) you have a spare moment perhaps you could check him out! Many thanks! Natalie PS. Nell, Thank you so much for your speedy and informative response! That certainly looks like my Gt uncle - his daughter was born in Marylebone about 1898 so that would fit. I'm so very grateful! I discovered only the other day that my gt grandfather, John NOBLE, who was usually a gardener, was a policeman at Marylebone.
