Martin Report 18 Dec 2003 23:53

Hi Susie, Please could you look up William Joseph Williams born 1874. We have him possibly living in Southwark in 1991 - head of household is Lucy H Jones - maybe she's his mother and remarried, but there is no husband mentioned. I've hit a dead end with William and would like to find out his parents, grandparents, where he lived, siblings etc. He is my paternal great grandfather by the way. Contact will go through my father Martin Williams email address. Thanks in advance Sam Jones NZ

Martin Report 21 Dec 2003 21:04

HI Susie, thanks for finding that one - also saw it myself, but how do you confirm that its the correct William J Williams?? Being such a common name and all! Be grateful of any further information you can find about his father and mother(Lucy). Sam/Martin I've just found a marriage for a Lucy Hannah Barrett and a Joseph Frances Williams in Christchurch, Southwark 27/08/1871. Could tie in with names and dates - still can't find any births or deaths for Lucy or Joseph though....grateful of any help! Thanks Sam/Martin

Hello Susie - Can you please have a look for two deaths.. if i'm giving you enough info to go on that is.. First is Herbert E Sturgeon, i'm guessing that he died somewhere in Hertfordshire after 1901 - he is reputedly still alive in 1915 but I can't prove it! (Also there might be more than one - you would'nt think so with a name like that, but i've found three!! The others came from Suffolk) Second - his wife Elizabeth Sturgeon who was definitely still alive in 1915 also in Hertfordshire If it helps - Herbert was born 1871 - Elizabeth born 1879. Thanks - Sue.

John Report 22 Dec 2003 15:36

Hi Susie, all I know is that their daughter Elizabeth Ann Walsh is shown on IGI as christened 1834 at St.John's Halifax, there is also a Martha Ann Walsh christened at same time same parents(from census Elizabeth Ann would be born c.1830,on marriage certificate no age is given but her husband was born in 1826),there is also another sister Mary ,on IGI christened Latchford,nr.Warrington 1842 (for her parents it just says Mrs. Harriet Walsh ,no mention of William ) on Warrington 1871 census Mary is still single living with her sister Elizabeth .I would have thought there would be other children in between ,but not sure. Hi Susie, thanks for attempts, not sure about the ones you found being connected but will bear them in mind.can I aslo ask you to look up details of Elizabeth Ann Walsh's husband. James Hornby was christened at St.Mary's ,Prescot,Lancs 18/2/1826 parents John Hornby and Mary (surname unknown),john was a Watch tool maker and appears on 1841 Prescot census as aged 55 (this could mean anywhere between 55-59).also present on 1841 census are George(35),Ann(25),Martha(20),Elizabeth(12),would there be any records of the Hornby family in Prescot,Lancs at around this time. John Report 22 Dec 2003 17:32

Hi Susie, Thanks for that, will bear them in mind, although I am pretty certain he was married long before then.I went to St.Helens library to find details of possible marriage ,however for some reason there were no entries for 1805 or 1806 which is when I think the marriage may have taken place(assuming the George on 1841 census is his son), One last request Thomas Hall, according to 1881 census born c.1839 Ardwick,Manchester ,father David (occ.haberdasher),I know he had a younger sister Elizabeth ,would you have any records of any other siblings,or info about David and his wife John
