Hi Margaret
No of course it does'nt worry me!! As long as we get the answers it does'nt matter from which source.
Do continue with your input.
In fact if you've got the Oxfordshire marriage disc I might ask you for a lookup!!

MARGARET= MARRIAGE LOOK UPS ON DISC.
If you would like a lookup on the Oxfordshire Marriage Disc, I am perfectly happy to do so, I am trying not to get too involved with my own tree this close to Christmas as I tend to be a bit one track minded and cannot stop fiddling if there is a bit outstanding. The Great Marlow booklets are calling me to work on the baptisms etc for my ancestors and if I start I will not stop for Christmas.....So helping others will keep me from getting too involved with my own research for a bit.......

Hiya,

I was asked to add my details re headington/charlbury on here.

I am looking for information onJoseph Sheldon and Esther Pratley i.e. their marriage and details of children who were born in Charlbury:

Mary Ann born c1844
Harry William Grant born c1852
Jane Emma born c1854 and any other children they may of had.

Joseph Sheldon's (born c1818 Headington) I believe parents were Joseph Sheldon and Mary Harding.

and Esther Pratley's (born c1824 Wychwood) parents I beleive were John Pratley and Susannah Grant.

Any records you can find on the above would be grately appreciated.

regards,

Siobhan

SIOBHAN- SHELDON

Please let me know which one you prefer
Joseph Sheldon baptised 15/9/1821 St Andrew Headington son of Joseph Sheldon and Mary (Harding)
or
Joseph baptised 27/11/1818 St Andrew Headington son of Thomas and Mary Sheldon.
Before I look for more children...

Hi Gill
I'm afraid the only burial for Sarah Welch is 19 March 1792 in Wantage.Unfortunately the parish clerk at that time omitted ages & just put young or old!! Sarah was classed as young! So who knows?
Regards Maggi

Gill

Gill Report 19 Dec 2007 12:30

Thanks Maggie,

That is quite interesting, as there was another Sarah WELCH bapt in 1755...so might have been her.
Don't think the Parish Clerk would think 49ish was young (my Sarah)...say's me, clutching at straws...lol

Thanks everso for your time

SIOBHAN= SHELDON

Joseph Sheldon an Innkeeper and Esther Pratley had only one child baptised in Charlbury
Jane Emma 26/12/1849
I can find no other baptisms in Leafield,Shipton Under Wychwood, and none after 1822 in St Andrews Headington.
I cannot find a marriage for Joseph Sheldon and Esther Pratley.

JOHN PRATLEY of Leafield a Labourer married 21/9/1815 Shipton Under Wychwood by Banns witnesses Charles Pratley and Elizabeth I'ON as written. Susanna Grant of Leafield.
Children of this marriage
Temperance baptised 14/4/1816 Leafield
Jane 15/5/1818
David 15/10/1820
Esther 23/5/1823
William 22/1/1826 all as first child.

JOSEPH SHELDON married Mary Harding 3/11/1816 Oxford St Aldates by Banns witnesses Samuel Crabb, E.Harding.
their son Joseph was baptised 15/9/1821 St Andrew Headington, although there was another Joseph baptised 1818 as previous message to another couple.
If you decide the Joseph 1821 is correct please contact me again for further children.

Hi Margaret, thank you very much for those. I am pretty sure Joseph Sheldon and Mary Harding is the correct one, but will double check through what I have to make sure and get back to you.

It is Mary Ann Sheldon born 1844 that my descendants go down. Haven't been able to locate a baptism for her. But I know from the census that her parents were Joseph Sheldon and Esther Pratley. I just realised she was born after 1837 I have never done a search for her birth certificate DOH!. I must see if I can find it on freebmd and order it.

Thank you for looking for me. It is very appreciated.

Hi Margaret,

Joseph born c1818 had a brother called Samuel born c1836 in Wheatley if that helps confirm the parents.

thank you,

Siobhan

Margaret

Margaret Report 19 Dec 2007 14:36

SIOBHAN - Sheldon in Wheatley there is not a Samuel baptised in Wheatley from 1815 to 1843 sorry. So no help there. Where are you getting the children's names from?

CelticShiv

CelticShiv Report 19 Dec 2007 14:54

Samuel I got from the 1851 census he is staying with his brother Joseph and sister in law Esther and his place of birth is given as Wheatley.

from the census Joseph's birth date is about 1821, so I think he probably is that of Joseph and Mary Harding.

Margaret

Margaret Report 19 Dec 2007 15:04

SIOBHAN on the 1841 Joseph is aged 20 living in St Martins Oxford City, but there is not a marriage for him there or any baptisms. He is a servant. So I would believe that your Joseph is this one, and the one on the 1851 married to Esther. The brother probably believed he was born in Wheatley he may well have been baptised elsewhere.
Have you looked for the Pratley tree onthe net, it may well be of assistance to you with the marriage. I also have plenty of Pratleys but not your particular Esther. Sorry

CelticShiv Report 19 Dec 2007 15:07

Thank you Margaret for all your help. I will take a look at the Pratley tree.

Hi Margaret

Thank you for your kind offer.

I am looking for information on Mary Ann Arnell

She was born about 1828/1829 in Henley on Thames, according to census,

In 1857 on her marriage cert it states of full age and her father as a Thomas Arnell, maltster. By 1857 she was living in Reading.

I have no other info for her prior to her marriage.

Any other info would be extremely welcome.

Thank you
Marlene
