Hello Mike...my roving reporter

Thank you for the interesting information, me thinks my shoes would have been constantly mended as I have never liked buying shoes!! Unless of course I was the Imelda Marcos of the 1760's!!!

I would like to do more research on the social history of my family, I bet the old books at the archives are fascinating! Have been reading about the history of FWK which was the profession of my Hall family. One day I shall visit Belton.........

Thank you again for all your help and the time you give

Hi all - another question, this time on behalf of a fourth cousin in FLA.

William Bradbury (1846 - 1930) was born in Bedworth, Warks, but moved to Leicester with the rest of his family in the 1860s and set up a shoe manufacturing business. he obviously did OK out of it because he retired to Bournemouth.

The brand name he used was 'Scotia'. Any idea how we could get information on this.

Would there be anything at the Record Office?

Thanks

Sheila

Greetings MIKE
Many thanks for your note re Curate William James TOMKINS.
At the moment there is no indication that he is part of my TOMKINS research, I see him on the 1841 census aged 30 but not born in the county, could not see him on subsequent census's. Having uncovered so many 'cobwebs in the cupboard' with my ancestors he would have been somewhat embarrassed as a curate !!..
Thank you for taking an interest.

Greetings MIKE
I'm looking for a needle in a haystack.
I have a rellie who was allegedly hit and killed by a bus in the centre of Leicester. The death is recorded in Apr-Jun Qtr 1981, if you have access to burials for that period and can narrow the gap I would be interested in any Leicester Merc report of the incident.
The person involved was Florence E Harper.

Thats brilliant, many, many thanks.
It is ironic that of two living members of the family have different opinions, one suggested she was hit by a Tram another by a Bus but in truth it was a Car.
Once again Mike I am indebted superior research, long may you reign

Frazzled Report 26 Aug 2008 19:46

Hello Mike – our top man at the Records Office

Please could you check something for me. On familysearch the parents of my 3x Great Grandfather Charles Hall are Edward and Mary Hall and he is listed with the following siblings:-

Charles 1799
William 1803
James 1805
Mary 1806
Elizabeth 1808
Sarah 1811
George 1814

When you were checking the marriage details for John Hall and Elizabeth Hoster 4/2/1688 you also found some baptism details for the children of Edward and Mary Hall

Edward 1800
William 1803
Mary 1806
Elizabeth 1808
Sarah 1811

Do you think I have mixed up 2 different families who both have Edward and Mary for parents? Could you please confirm which ones are Charles’ siblings for me. Also if I am not being too cheeky could you please see if the occupation of Edward is listed.

Thank you
Caroline xx

“ Your very Welcome Jon O’ Kent…….”

If your puzzling with the months. ? …..

The system goes …

If there is an inquest
And the Cornier is satisfied there is no foul play.
After collecting all the evidence from the parties concerned.

Then he issues “An Interim Death Certificate” So as to bury the deceased.
But the Death can not be REGISTERED until after the inquest.
Hence it was not resisted until April June quarter.

Did not one of your relatives ( Bus Conductor )
get killed by a Railway engine outside a Leicestershire station ?

Sorry Mike…..confused myself!!

Edward Hall c1775 and Mary Hall c1777 are my 4x G Grandparents. Their son Charles 1799 is my 3x G Grandfather. I want to find out for sure who Charles’ siblings are. On familysearch they give siblings William 1803, James 1805, Mary 1806, Elizabeth 1808, Sarah 1811 and George 1814.

On a separate note, in April I sent you a message enquiring about the marriage of John Hall. On 24th April you sent me a message confirming the details of the marriage of John Hall and Elizabeth Hoster on 4/2/1688.

As well as the above you gave me some added information about Hall baptisms. You put some details of children born to Edward and Mary - Edward 1800, William 1803, Mary 1806, Elizabeth 1808 and Sarah 1811.

Both lists are nearly the same except the family search list has James and George listed and your list has Edward. I want to know if they are all one family and I haven’t made a mistake putting them all as siblings.

Sorry shouldn’t have put anything about John and Elizabeth in first message made it more confusing. Hope that is now as clear as mud!!!

I thought it might be asking a bit much to see if Edward’s occupation was listed!

Sorry for the unclear message, you’re right it has been a long day. Hope I have explained myself better.

Hi Mike,
I havent been in a long while, and hope you are feeling like your "old self" again!
I am trying to help a lady with "Fox" from Leicester and was wondering if you could find something for me?

Oliver Fox-born 1797-1798 Leicester and married to Ann ? who was born 1800 -Spondon Derby
Is there a maiden name for Ann?
Also their son, Robert Fox born 1825, no marriage found, but shows him as a widower in 1851 census-29 Grandby St. Leicester
and his father and Ann at 33 Granby St.
Can you find a marriage for him?

I would also like to know if Oliver had siblings, and Robert also.
Thank you, Houdini Mike (my name for you because of how you find so much, lol)

Hope your day is a good one, from across the pond
Carol in Ontario!
