Angela Report 13 Sep 2010 19:35

Hi,
Got this one, Info states
DOB 11th Aug 1888 Liverpool Lancs
Occupation ? Van Boy
Date & Period of Engagement into Navy 11/08/1906 for 12 years.
Age is 'TE' ?
Height 5'2 7/8" which is about same as my Dad,
Fair hair,
grey eyes,
Fresh complexion.
Scar... removal 3rd toe of left foot...(my Dad had overlapping toes & so does my eldest son...it was advised to have my sons amputated but we decided against and he is fine...so could be same thing)
Ships listed... Emerald as Boy 2nd class,
but i am a bit confused as the serving dates are 4th Aug 04 to 11 March 05 earlier than the sign up date 11th Aug 1906??.
He was of Very good character & was invalided due to what looks like disease of Ear.

I have started to look for the Emerald ship but only seem to come up with one way after my dates in 1920 and the earlier ones seem to have been scrapped or American ones. so will keep looking...I guess the next step is to order the birth certificate of Thomas Harold Felton from 1888 to see if he has the same DOB and whom his parents were...or do you think what we have discovered is enough to prove we are decendants of this man.??

Eeeek.
I dont know what to answer here.

I think this is the right man as there really are no others in the running as it was a rather uncommon name (thank Evans)

But it is up to you if you order the birth or not.

But I really do think that you are desended from this man.

The description of him alone is surely a big lean that way.

On the Naval/sailor records I am no good as know little on them except to search where I did to find that one and download them

My Great grandfather was in the Navy so I learnt that, back when, searching for that" underhand lying toerag" that said he was single so he didnt have to send money home to his WIFE and CHILDREN.
And changed his first name and date of birth to join up when his parents died and he was faced with the workhouse along with his younger sister who did have to go into it.
Dont know where the other surviving older sibling of theirs went to in 1881,never found him yet on it.

Angela Report 16 Sep 2010 00:34

Hello

Yes i think i will order it, just for final clarification ;-)

Oh dear your great grandfather sounds a bit like my ex, even those three lettered authorities can't get him to cough up...may be this is why my Gran married another man..perhaps the real father never paid her anything to help keep my Dad...maybe this is why his name was never passed to my Dad and why without your help we may never have found him....men eh.

I think i would like also now to trace if my new found Grandad had children with his new wife Honoria as they could still be living and be my 50% Aunts & Uncles...wonder if they knew about my Dad...mmmm guess we can't go any further on this one as they only married in 1911 so we wouldn't have any way of checking till the next census or two gets released and by then they prob will all have passed on.... Blasted red tape....

Angela Report 17 Sep 2010 00:54

I have written again to the two people on this site that seem to have the same relative of Honoria but so far alass no replies ;-( i can only wait Boo.Hoo.

FannyByGaslight Report 18 Sep 2010 19:50

Hi Angela.
Been away for a few days to see family.

There is this birth on FREEBMD which may well be a child of Honoria and Thomas Felton.

Births Mar 1912
Felton Florence G V Gardner W.Derby 8b 558

And a marriage

Marriages Jun 1937
Felton Florence G V Gerrard Liverpool N. 8b 846
GERRARD William Felton Liverpool N. 8b 846

And a birth which you can look up ,I wont place on here as she may still be alive but her name is Honoria and she was born just after the 1937 marriage..

Then Honoria marries in 1960 in the reg district of Bootle and there are at least 2 children born after 1960 to that marriage in Lancashire.

Those births and the marriage are on Ancestry.

So you can try an electoral roll lookup for them if you wanted as they do have a less common name.
One of them plus Honoria are on the 2002 ER,but I dont have access to later ones, but I know a woman who does.

Angela Report 29 Sep 2010 02:32

Wow, i will look all this up when i get my head around it, sorry i also been busy with Mums b'day and news of another grandchild on the way ;-)
But i have now got the marriage certificate of Thomas Harold Felton (Grandad) & Honoria Gardiner Jan 1911.

Thomas Father was William James Felton-Pilot, &
Honoria Father was Thomas Gardiner Railway Pointsman

They lived at 11 Cavendish Road Walton.

Witness was Rosanna Broadfoot (Honorias sister) & William Broadfoot (BIL)

I also had a reply from Brian on the GRU site whom said Honorias & Thomas children were called Adelaide, Thomas H & William, which doesn't quite match with Florence but i think he said it was 1912 as well...i will have to check these also as not had time yet.....Brian did state that he was actually tracing the Gardiner family so didn't have a lot of info, but he did give same details as the marriage certificate that i sent of for.

This is all so exciting and we still cant believe you managed to find our Dad :-)

Hello FannyByGaslight

Well as you have been right all along i took other info as second,
So, so far we have
Thomas Harold Felton 1888 unmarried child with Florence being
Thomas Harold Felton 1909 (my Dad)

Then Thomas Harold Felton 1888 married to Honoria Gardiner
Thomas & Honoria's Children
Florence G.V. 1912
Adelaide 1913
Thomas H 1916
William F 1918
John 1920
George 1923
Ernest 1928

Then Thomas 1888 daughter Florence GV 1912 (poss named after his first love ;-)...) married William Gerrard
who had a child called Honoria T Gerrard 1938

Honoria T Gerrard Married in 1960 ???would the Surname have a sleep item in it ??

This has taken me ages to get my head around all this, plus been trying to locate Thomas Harold 1888 father William James & Mother Mary Wynne or Hynne (looks like) of 47 Rossett Street Walton....How do i confirm this is William James Felton's parents ??

I have another birth certificate that i thought might be connected ...it states....

Birth 10/4/1857 William James Felton....parents listed as
James Felton (A printer cant read rest) & Mary Felton (Formerly Brewer) of looks like 15 Plane Street West Derby...but when i looked this couple up i could not see a son called William...yet i have the birth certificate.......help please if you have time.

A million thanks

Angela

Wales ,I am in Wales.
England is next door though.!.

Good luck with contacting rellies and fingers xsd for a good result

Fan..

PS.
If that "compositor" is next to Printer on fathers occupation then that would be the right word.
Type setter, is the other way of saying it I think?.
I think Mary only became a confectioner after widowhood as she has no occupation listed before.
