Childrern of Samuel Evans & Annie Eakins

Samuel 1907
John Ernest 1911
Herbert 1915

If Samuel is the right father and died 1926, you won't get Annie's remarriage online, records for N. Ireland stop around 1921. The only place you'll get this information is from GRONI in Belfast.

Has anyone heard of a place called CLAUDEY in Ireland? Again, this is a place being mentioned - does it relate to any of the places with Samuel Evans above?

Thanks
Lorraine

Thank you Maura
Would the list of children for Samuel and Annie above also include William James 1913? Again if so so, this is then looking very liikely to be the right one if I have Wilfred, William, Herbert and John as siblings. Could there be missing records that don't show Wilfred if he was born after 1915 maybe?

Your advice and help greatly appreciated
Lorraine

Hello Again
Just digesting the census info above....it shows Samuel and Annie in 1911 ....which seems fine. Is the 1901 record for WIlliam James aged 26 (son) related or just a record showing a William James for reference? Sorry, I am a tad confused (maybe because I am looking at it at work instead of working haha)...

thanks
Lorraine

I have already given you William james birth for 1913, his father's name was probably mistranscribe as Annie instead of Samuel, his mother was a Annie Eakins. There's no sites online that have full BMD's for Ireland North or South. There is a Claudy in .Co. Derry. As for the 1901 census, the only thing I can think is that William James was not the head of the household, maybe his father was still living just not present at the time the census was taken.

Leyther

Leyther Report 10 Jan 2012 15:22

that's great, yes was just clarifying it included the WIlliam James b. 1913 you gave me earlier : )

I am still unsure on the 1901 find for William James aged 26? My William James was born 1913, and we believe his Father was William, but could now be Samuel (Likely)...the Father was a farmer too we think.
So this William aged 26, listed as SON .... could this be Samuels Brother Maybe? is the Samuel on the list THE Samuel we are talking about in 1911?

Thanks for your patience

Hi Maura and Lorraine
Did you scroll down on the 1901 census for the Evans family at 22 Terrydean?
William James age 26 is entered as son and he signed the return but it also has a message written across it:

"HEAD OF FAMILY IS ON VISIT TO SCOTLAND."
I also looked at this 3xtimes before it occurred to me to scroll down the page.... DUH!!

if you find this same family in 1911, they still live at 22 Terrydean and the mother is now in the household but she is a widow.
Therefore: William J Evans b 1875 and and Samuel Evans b 1879 were brothers and their mother was called Margaret
Born in Co Derry circa 1850.
Married for 40 yrs. 7 children born and 6 still living

LOL Anne, I never even thought of scrolling down, so it looks like we're on the right track.

Hi Maura,
I wondered if the head of household had simply been ommitted from the census and decided to look at the bottom to see who signed it!

You've lost me Anne, what do you mean.

Lorraine and Maura,
I think I have found it!
1901 census contains a Niece called Eliza Lyons.

Samuel Evans was born 1 Feb 1879 in Terrydrean.
He was the son of WILLIAM EVANs and MARGARET LYON
Other Children born into this marriage:

Eliza Jane Evans b 12 Dec 1872 Londonderry
William James Evans 9 Dec 1874 Banagher
Robert Alexander Evans b 9 Oct 1876 Londonderry

Margaret Lyon had 7 children in total
From 1901 return there were also John b 1872 and Maggie born 1879.

This accounts for all 6 living children.but....

Looks like sonJohn Evans married in Canada in 1907. Parents on marriage cert: William Evans and Margaret Lyon

Maura,
Just seen your messeage re the 1901 census.
This is what I meant....
William J Evans had been entered as a "Son" to head of household.
There was no head listed on the return.
As the Head of the household would normally sign the return, I scrolled down to see who's signature was on ithe bottom, and spotted the annotation re Scotland

Maura,
My apologies.
There are so many posts now that I totally missed yours re William Evans and Margaret Lyon.

Other folk's trees are much more fun than one's own.
I do hope Lorraine is keeping up with all this?

FANTASTIC!! this is really good and makes sense (now I am at home and not at work :-D).

I like the Canada connection too as it may be a coincidence, but my Mother in Law says one her Granddads Brothers (Granddad is William James b. 1913) went to Canada also so we assume this would have been in the 1920 / 30's..he could have been following his Uncle John?

How have youmanaged to find this so quickly? I am really pleased and thankful.

Chancing my luck would we "you" be bale to find out if Wilfred Evans , Brother of William James 1913 existed or if this has been dreamt?

Like you I had not scrolled down on the 1901 census ....a lesson learned!!

A big big thanks once again

Just had a proper look at the 1911 for 22 Terrydreen and can see Samuels Brother William James with his Mum, Wife and kids.....what threw me for a minute was that he too has chosen Samuel and John as kids names and has a William James aged 9....I thought I was bad having four cousins the same age named Tracey! haha

Great stuff

Hi Lorraine,
I don't know how I might work out if there was a Wilfred in the family but I will root around and see.
John Evans son of William Evans and Margaret Lyon married in York, Ontario, Canada.
He w married Mary Jane Wilson on 22 June 1909.
She was the daughter of Samuel Wilson and Charlotte Jane Couttland.

This marriage record is held on Ancestry and has been transcribed incorrectly.
It is filed for 1907 marriage when the actual says 1909.
I am not yet convinced that the bride's last name was Wilson.
