Nellie123 Report 2 Feb 2017 20:52

Hi Erin I am still looking for James Morrison and Mary Mcmanus . my Husbands cousin is on Ancestry and he has a Hugh Morrison born Rosemary st church Belfast and a Margaret Clark for the wife , He also has William Morrison 1882 as a step brother to the rest of the family , I have searched but not found anything relating to them . I think I should do a course or something like it to learn how to do this searching , I have tried going upwards year from year then going the opposite way , I think it is back to stage one and start all over again thank you Nellie

Nellie....The Registers for St Patricks for the years in question relating to James and Mary McManus are not available/ ?missing as I mentioned in an earlier post so I don't know where the info re James and Mary marrying there originated from can you not get back to the source of your info....I cannot find anything on the Civil Marriage Reg. either.
Will have a look re Hugh Morrison and see what I can find for you...but you do realise Rosemary St. Church is a Presbyterian Church not RC so are you on the correct trail with James and Mary....?

Yes Erin I will see if the person that gave me this info of James and Mary can say where she got it from ( im sure she said Rootsireland ) but she also gave David for James,s father , This family searching is not easy , Thank god for all you helpers , I did not know that Rosemary st church was not RC . AustinQ gave me a link for William Morrison ,s army file and it also mentions St Patrick,s as the parish William came from and his next of kin was Wife Hannah Morrison and mother Mary Morrison who was living at 25 Mayfair st . I have tried going through each person in the family to see if I could find a marriage , When Ann wed Patrick McFadden in Nov 15th 1913 she to lived at 25 Mayfair st and her father was James on the wedding Cert .. I think it is James and Mary as in the old days children were named after the family relatives and as far as I know there is no Hugh in the family that I know of ... many thanks Nellie

I would suggest this is from Roots Ire. and entry will be in the St Patricks Register. possibly still at the Church or in the NLI and not yet transcribed on line...

Going back to the "family" marriages you are trying to locate....I have looked through James Morrison and Mary McManus Children and found the following....

Charles Morrison married Alice Sands daughter of Bernard Sands 6 November 1897 at St Peters RC Church Belfast.
Alice Sands Morrison 23yrs died 18 January 1899 at her parents home 110 Servia St.Her mother Alice was in attendance.
Death due to Bronchitis for 2 months.
Can find no children of this marriage.

Charles subsequently married again Nov.21 1917 to Mary Jane Delaney nee Keenan. Charles was living at Mayfair St. .with his parents Mary at the time was living 22 Mayfair St.

Mary Morrison married Patrick Turley 15 October 1917 at St Patricks.

I believe the following sad story relates to one of Alice Sands Morrison brothers' Peter...

Peter married Elizabeth McGann (McGahan) 26 Nov.1906 and went on to have a daughter Mary b 1908.
Peter was a Lance Corporal in the Royal Irish Rifles (8225) and was subsequently Court Martialled he was one of those "Shot at Dawn" 15 September 1915.

If you google 74 Abyssinia Street Belfast 1915 there is lots about the circumstances of his Court Martial and death.....

Elizabeth in 1911 was living with her Stepfather John McGahan/McGann. Theodore St.

Erin ...You have worked so hard thank you ever so much . I searched Irish sites and looked at .. Ulster Historical Foundation it has 3 different names for James in a marriage of 1874 ( David, Hugh , and James , ) I think i should check these out and see where it takes me , I will also look at the Threads you have sent me Thank you Nellie

Eringobragh1916 Report 3 Feb 2017 19:23

Nellie....

This family throws up more contradictions than enough when looking at them....
According to the MC of Mary Morrison (Mayfair St.) and Patrick Turley in Oct.1917 they are both listed as being of full age..eg 21..well considering she was only 14 yrs on the 1911 Census that's a bit of a stretch....Patrick as I have sussed out was also about the same age....found some bits relating to him..
He was at the time of their marriage a Soldier in Royal Irish Fusiliers and appears to have been a POW in Germany. There was a notice plus photo of him in the Belfast Eve.Telegragh in May 1918 requesting any news of him by Mary (27 Mayfair St.)

The above was historical info.supplied by his grandson 2011 Belfast Forum.
