Unless my research to date is completely wrong, that is unlikely as she would have been born at roughly the same time as Sarah Chadwick who I believe is Mary Chadwick’s mother.

SMITH, SARAH 77
GRO Reference: 1854 J Quarter in LEEK Volume 06B Page 151

Surely if she was born 1777/8 her parents would have married before 1782? Unless she was illegitimate, of course

Audley??? That is miles away from Staffordshire Moorlands
Her date of birth is as stated on the census return but as yet I have only found a baptism in 1783, if I find an earlier one then I would have to re-examine the records for her parents.

There are too many unknowns to permit a definite answer.

IF William and Elizabeth are her parents, and IF she was born c1878, then she must have been born illegitimately and they married later and had her baptised around that time.

OR she lied about her age, or wasn't sure when she was born.

OR she wasn't William and/or Elizabeth's child, and either wasn't baptised or the record hasn't survived.

OR her parents were named William and Elizabeth, but were another couple whose marriage record hasn't survived.

We just don't know

Well, pardon me! I don’t have intimate knowledge of the area. It was only a suggestion!
