Not sure you need it :-S :-S

Did you notice the death?

Denburybob

Denburybob Report 9 Nov 2023 19:49

I can find no children of their marriage, but Lily was 36 at the time of her marriage.

Denburybob

Denburybob Report 9 Nov 2023 19:54

Yes, I noticed the death. I will send for the cert when I am sure this is the right Lily.
That's enough for tonight. Sleep well.

The 1985 death posted by ErikaH -
?
Lily Sills died 10.8.1985, cremated 23rd at Wilford Hill, Nottingham. An Agnes Sills apples for the cremation with an address in Loughborough, Leics.

An Agnes Sills b 19.10.1916 died 1988 Nottingham RD (probate shows that Loughborough address)

This appears to be that Agnes - Clarence Sills married Agnes Hammond Q2 1939 Nottingham

1939 Register
20 Rockford Road, Nottingham, Nottingham C.B., Nottinghamshire, England
Clarence Sills 12 Dec 1906 Male Hosiery Worker Manager Married 191 1
Agnes Sills 19 Oct 1916 Female Unpaid Domestic Duties Married 191 2

Clarence appears to have died 1982 Nottingham age 75 - DOB as above. Cremated Wilford Hill, applied for by a David Sills. Clarence's probate was Feb. 1983

The marriage cert for Edwin Sills and Lily Spencer arrived today, confirming that she is "my" Lily. The marriage was witnessed by Thyrza Spencer, who was Lily's mother, and her father is given as Kennel Man. This all ties in nicely. Curiously, the other witness was Arthur Marshall. Amy Spencer's child Cecily (Cicely) had the middle name Marshall, and the name crops up elsewhere. I am wondering whether a Marshall was the father. Now to get on searching.

Denburybob

Denburybob Report 20 Nov 2023 19:57

So far I can find no children of this marriage from 5 years prior to and 10 years after in the Nottingham area.

Denburybob

Denburybob Report 20 Nov 2023 20:05

That name has cropped up again. A Marshall Sills is in the same household as Edwin T Sills, born 1902. He is obviously Edwin's brother. Is this just a coincidence?

ErikaH Report 20 Nov 2023 20:58

Marshall Sills died in 1918

Here is another line I need to follow. (Why is this font so small?) The sister of Amy,
Eleanor May Spencer, b, 1892. I can find nothing after the 1911 census as a kitchen maid in the household of Sir Arthur Bigge, Lord Horsley, at St James's Palace, St Martin in the Fields, London. Lord Horsley was the Private Secretary to the Duke of Cornwall and Kent.

Any comments regarding info already provided?

Where have you looked for info about Eleanor?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 21 Nov 2023 18:36

First point…she was born in 1891

Second…….have you investigated and ruled out the death in 1913 registered in Sevenoaks district? You need to look at the GRO index to determine the second forename………….

Denburybob

Denburybob Report 21 Nov 2023 19:05

I tried looking for a death in all areas covering several years. Too many to narrow it down. But yes, she must be the one, her parents and sisters moved to the Sevenoaks area. So, no offspring to find there then.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 21 Nov 2023 19:09

Are you going to check the GRO?

Denburybob

Denburybob Report 21 Nov 2023 19:14

She was baptised in Nov 1891. I will check the death, but it is not a priority at the moment. She won't go on my tree until I am 100% sure. Her parents and youngest sisters moved to the Sevenoaks area prior to the 1911 census.

So far, Sydney John Spencer seems to be the only sibling of Amy to have had children. I have been in contact with two of his grandchildren and met up with one of them. But they knew nothing of Amy.

GRO Reference: 1913 J Quarter in SEVENOAKS Volume 02A Page 895

If you knew she was baptised in 1891, why did you give her birth year as 1892?
