In my local paper (I live in Dereham Norfolk) there is an advert for a new magazine that is coming out called Norfolk Roots. It has a website too which you may find interesting www.norfolkroots24 then a 'co' and 'uk' had a quick peep and it looks quite interesting.' Penny, Just seen your posting re. help in East Dereham. Thank you very much for the offer of help. I've only just begun my TOOK research and am at the moment waiting a bc to confirm that my GG Grandfather William Archibald Took born East Dereham c1840 is the son of William Took and Ann Maria Rowing? William Took (Tailor) and wife Ann spent all their lives in and around Dereham. As soon as I have confirmation of the above I'm sure I will need some help - and will take you up on the offer of help if you don't mind ;-) Thanks again, Emma x

re HOUCHEN I spent a happy Summer (1972?) Uni-Vacation trawling the (original - what a privilege - my father was Rector!) Parish Registers of Fincham on behalf of a family in NZ. There were lots of HOUCHENs there. I could try to find the NZ contact info, in case they've got anything of relevance, if you like. My Norfolk research is a sideline from my main project: an ancestral chart. This isn't in the direct line, but... NEEVE - in Walpole (doesn't say which one in the censuses - could even be the Suffolk one***). A daughter, Charlotte (b 1856-7), married Eli Hector Christmas (RN) and they moved up to N Yorkshire and thence to Lincs (Coastguard). Christine ***probably not: their daughter (Florence) was born in Outwell 1881-2, so I guess Charlotte went back to her parents, or thereabouts, to have her baby. It would be sensible if her husband was in the RN.
