Thanks, Meryl. I knew John Herrick came from Essex, but moved to Warwickshire so I half expected a negative. As for John Jones, I really know nothing much about him, except that he was alive for his daughter's conception in 1858 and dead by her marriage in October 1877! Blast all these wretched common surnames! ;)

Very kind offer, Meryl. I am interested in Robert Wilson Little and his wife, Elizabeth, nee West. One of their children was born at Lower Sheringham, Norfolk in 1853. I would be delighted with any census details. They might not have married until after the 1851 Census. Many thanks. Andrew Smith

Hi Meryl, Thanks for your time and effort. Just out of curiosity, who was the head of the family that Thomas Spears was lodging with? The family might not be connected with the Spears family in any way but you never know. Many thanks Andy

A question for everyone on this thread. As Meryl stated, there were no John Herrick's in or around Birmingham in 1851. I know there must have been by 1857 because John's son was born there. The one and only John Herrick in Birmingham that I can find is in 1881, and he was born in Essex (in 1823). Exactly how much of a leap is it to suggest that this is my John? The circumstantial evidence fits.
