I forgot to say I received my bus pass today, which I applied for a couple of weeks ago. The City Council took the photo with a webcam and the woman wasn't a bit interested in it, she sent it off for processing before I could even look at it. There was no one else waiting so don't know why she was in such a rush.
Well it isn't dire, but I have had more flattering pics taken lol
Will have to smile when I show it so the driver knows I am not usually that miserable looking lol

Am going to have such fun now I can get around for free lol

Dont worry Liz, my railcard pic makes me look a right thug....still the ticket inspectors are always very nice....wonder why?

Enjoy your bus pass...can you go nationwide?

Hi Colin, what are you doing up this early/late?

Lizx

Yes, can go free in any county but not on Nat Express coaches so would have to go across one county, get off and get on another bus in the next county sort of thing I think. Would be a real headache arranging all the times to fit in and lifting luggage off and on yourself, no luggage compartments underneath etc.
Some local reporters in our area did it when the passes first stated on April 8th, haven't used mine yet.

Go for it !
We have quite a long distance bus route along the south coast, - one bus Dover, Kent to Hastings, Sussex and possibly onto Eastbourne? so quite a few more pensioners will be using that, I'd guess.

I hope that it is feasible for people to have great days out now that the journey is free.
Sadly many out-lying areas have poor bus services but if pensioners now use the surviving ones, they won't be cut too.

Hi Liz
LOL - I know exactly how you feel. I look like death on my photograph. I do have to say that I was not feeling 100% when I had my photograph taken and it jolly well shows. As you say we will just have to give a very broad cheesy smile when we step onto the buses!

I am so excited about getting mine that I do not know where to travel first LOLOL!

You are so right there Maz. When we used to visit my OH's sister who lives near Cleethorpes we found it bloomin perishing up there - could not get warm. It is def. colder as you get higher up the country. It was nice to come back home just for the warmth of the west country. Tina x

AnninGlos Report 31 May 2008 09:16

I think as long as the route starts in the county you are OK not sure, now it is national but we can go from Glos to Ledbury in Worcs. There was somebody in our local paper travelling from Penzance to carlyle, they were in Glos on their way. they had it planned with B&Bs booked along the way and planned to do it in 8 days I think. You'd have to travel fairly light.

Oh, Bob, they did that to me when I got my college ID card about 5 years ago! I walked into the registry, said I'd come to get my card (weighed down by an A1 portfolio, coat hanging off my shoulders, hair tied back which doesn't flatter me on photos) and she just picked up a digital camera and snapped me!

The flash bounced off my glasses so you can't see my eyes properly and - owing to the stuff I was carrying, my shoulders look lopsided. Why do they do it to us? It's cruel.

Apart from which, it wasn't even a white background so it looks even more gloomy! She didn't even give me chance to smile.
