I think you did the right thing. They must know that you have firm ideas about telling lies, and now next time they will maybe think twice about not telling the truth.

I also think that if they do wrong again and admit to it you should praise them for telling the truth, even if they have also been naughty.

Grandparents tend to be more soft with Grandchildren. I used to find it hard to see mine punished. although i would never let the children know what I thought.

Muffy as they are your children......you must of been justifed to do what you did....as for your dad...think back to your punishments as a child......you have ever reason to be cross...as both know its wrong both lied to you knowing thats wrong.....and both blamed the other and know thats wrong....so do you stand by your actions or do you feel gulity ?

Hi Muffy, well done you, you did exactly the right thing and your girls will think twice about lying again and also damaging property. You are standing them in good stead and it is a shame more parents aren't as firm yet fair as you were today.

My parents used to give in to my son, and undermined me quite a few times when he was little, my reply was that I would stop them seeing him if they didn't back me up, and that soon pulled them into line, altho what went on when I wasn't around, might have been different lol
My father especially was very strict with me too.

My son used to say he could hear my voice in his head when he thought of doing things he shouldn't and this was in his late teens!! Some of his mates were working insurance scams to get money etc and he so needed extra cash, but he said Mum, why did you bring me up to be so honest? I knew I would feel bad if I tried to scam some cash. Bless.

There will be other days at the sea, and I am sure the girls will enjoy next week's trip to see the baby too.

As someone else said, do praise them if they own up over anything else in the future, but still punish for the misdeed.
