as my partner went to get some money out of bank yesterday but he couldn't get any out so he phoned a number but was told nothing, when he tried to pay for something using his card the person told him they had a number to ring as it wouldn't accept the payment, she then had a number given for my partner to phone, when he phoned the number he was told that the fraud department of his bank as stopped anyone using the card as when he has used his card in one cash machine someone had put one of them things (don't know what there called) into the cash machine and had got all of his card details,
So now he has to wait to get a new card and pin number.
So am not very happy.
Has anyone else had any experience of this happening to them.

so sorry to hear that it happened to you daughter and you friend Jean.
I am pleased that your daughter managed to get her money back and I hope that your friend gets things sorted out soon.
What annoys me is that the people don't think about leaving people without money, we have had to borrow money just so we can get some shopping as we have 5 children.
I wonder what they do do if the boot was on the other foot and it happened to them or a member of their family.

My husband had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. He couldn't get cash out at several machines and phoned the bank. Again the last transaction he could remember paying for by card had been petrol. The same night over a hundred miles away my Sister and her OH had the same problem.

Luckily we had seperate accounts so we could at least get some things although it was a week before pay day!

I hope it gets sorted soon but I suppose you have to be thankful that these things are spotted and any transactions made are covered by the bank.

Hi Lisa,
That is one of the reasons I will not use a machine.
I always go into the bank for cash or use a credit card and pay when the bill comes in.
It must be devastating when that happens.
Take care xxxxxx

I know you are angry and its all very inconvenient but your bank are looking after you and your account.

8 weeks ago some **** emptied one account buying themselves computers, but the bank picked it up within 2 hours so they never had the computor and I had my money back, all my cards were replaced within days, but then then went into another account buying phone top ups, again cards changed and money back, but the phone companies that they bought the top ups from were on the side of the criminal and would not help because of "Data protection" .

Just make sure you check your statements carefully they usually test the account by taking and putting a small amount back in the account, mine was £1.50 . I think mine was because of on line shopping as I never use a cash point.

I little inconvenience is not too bad to be safe

we are pleased that the bank picked up on what had happened so quick and stopped the card been used straight away.
I really feel for people who it happens to.
But you never expect it to happen to yourself.
My partner said he won't be using cash machines form now on, but that he will be going into the bank to get his money from now on so it doesn't happen again.

I had it happen to me last year, cleared out my account in romania, bank were brilliant, asked if i needed any money to tide me over and i got it all back.
Mine was using the cash machine at our local Morrisons, apparently they had got hundreds of people.

Sorry to hear that it happened to you Wendy, really pleased that you got your money back and that your bank where really helpful, my partners bank wouldn't tell him anything it was only when he tried paying for something with his card that he found out something was wrong, as he was told he was maybe putting the wrong pin number in which he wasn't.

Lisa I can understand that your angry at not being able to get money this weekend its your partners money and rightly his but the very plus point is someone has tried to fraud you and others and its been nipped in the bud before your account emptied.....so always a good bit to as well...

Lisa M Report 3 Aug 2008 11:08

Yes I agree Hayley, it is a good thing that it was stopped before we had his account cleared which we are very grateful for.
But i know this sounds nasty but i hope that one day it will happen to them so they know what it feels like.

Lisa M Report 3 Aug 2008 11:28

I just think that it's about time the people who do it are on the receiving end of what they do Hayley, so no maybe it isn't me nasty saying it, but what they do is nasty
Thank you Roxanne, It has put my partner off using them now as well.

Hope you get it sorted out Lisa...................... this seems to be such a common problem........

We stopped near a fast food place yesterday and I saw a young girl using a machine that was free standing (not attached to the wall) only hope that she did`nt get `stung`. Those in the wall are bad enough but I would never have the courage to use a free standing machine especially as it was in a not very nice part of S. London.
