Why purple Aileen?

You don't see tidemarks on lads necks these days.
I'm from a mining area and kids usually had tidemarks if they just washed their face but not their necks.
Now we don't have the pits belching out coal dust the tidemarks seem to have gone.

I was trying to look up the word plegett or similar cos I thought it meant navel fluff ... I couldnt find what I was looking for but did find this:

Was clearing out the Air Raid Shelter today and found a batch (as you do).

Now the fluff I reckon got there because back when I was growing up we didn't have duvets so I think it was the fluff that came off the blankets.

What do you think of that then (not a lot!).

yes i think the fluff came off the blankets

I used to remember lots of people whose legs were all motley coloured.

I think that was because they used to sit too near to the fire.

My Mum used to call it A B C

Ann....ABC...those red funny marks on the legs which you got if you sat near the fire! They looked like letters or summat..... LOL

Yes used to get them from sitting to near the stove in class, and too near the fire at home. didn't they hurt?

I'm Scottish and never heard that expression before.

Anyone who is Scottish and lived in Glasgow might know Victoria Park. It had a bandstand and a fossil grove.

There was always areas of the park tended by gardeners where the area was laid out in badges and insignias of say the RAF etc. Miniature plants which showed a picture.

Seen them occasionally in municipal beds by the seaside on the promenades.
