and not to be at all ireverrent but it has just popped into my mind unbidden...lol

HarrySecombe on a Sunday evening's TV singing

"If I can help somebody as I pass along,
If I can cheer somebody with a word or song,
If I can show somebody he is trav’ling wrong,
Then my living shall not be in vain."

Ah, but is it up to one person to show another person if they're "trav'ling wrong".

Hi Sue...I had forgotten that part of the song till I C & Pd it to be honest lol....

perhaps I would see that phrase not in the sense of 'trying to convert someone to my way of thinking' ie I'm 'right' and they are 'wrong' but more in the sense of helping people who are on the wrong path for themselves... in a more practical sense rather than a religious or moral one....

Well I certainly wouldn't pop up in front of someone I deemed was " trav'ling wrong " and say " you don't wanna do it like that .......you should do it like this "...........lol

But a listening ear never goes amiss.........nor a helping hand if required.

I believe hell does exist Rose but that we, as good people, with good intentions, can overcome it,

I don't see it as trying to convert someone to thinking my way. Example - we have a homeless man in our town. Many times one of the local churches has taken him in hand, cleaned him up, fed him and given him a bed. Within a couple of weeks he is back on the streets. He appears to be happy but people always feel they must "help" him. Is he unhappy or 'tra'ling wrong' or are these kind but perhaps misguided people trying to help someone who doesn't want help? Makes you think.

Sue, when I lived in Cornwall as a teenager I often used to see the 'Woody man' as my mum and I called him,he dressed a little like an old monk, sackcloth really, he had a little shelter up in the woods, a fire always burning and seemed to all intents and purposes to be happy... and why not lol...it appeals to me sometimes !

As long as it is a choice and not forced upon someone by circumstance , not all homeless people want, or can cope with living the way society deems the 'norm'..... I would say that the help should be there when needed and wanted..but people should be left to choose when that is...

Hi Rose

thanks for another interesting thread.

As I was reading this through, I thought along the lines of

"if hell is worse than some of my worst moments, then please, I don't want to go there" but

"if heaven is half as good as some of my best, can I have a ticket please"

And then I came across the entry on Buddhism, ie

"The wise man makes his own heaven while the foolish man creates his own hell here and hereafter"

Lol Sue

Which says it all, really.

I don't believe that it exists as a place.

However I do think that we will be accountable for our behaviour and that the most important thing will be how we have treated others.

It's interesting to read the accounts of those who have had near death experiences. There seems to be a recurring theme that such people feel they had a life review and were to be judged. I am uncertain how I feel about these but I am not prepared to dismiss them as the effects of a dying brain as I know some scientists do.

We come from such a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. Some people seem to have very fortunate lives while others face troubles and deprivation from the start. Some die very young before they have had an opportunity to prove whether they are good or bad by nature. In many ways reincarnation with the ability to grow in spiritual understanding would be a fairer system.

Interesting to think about.

Hi Rose

It works fine when applied to Lottery numbers and other things random.

But when it comes to the choices we have to make in life - I think not.
