It is indeed, Mersey,

I came out to Australia with OH and our two children in 1982. I actually left Manchester in 1975 when I got a job in Grimsby.

Manchester would have changed enormously since then!

Mersey

Mersey Report 14 Nov 2011 22:33

Its certainly changed now.... !!

I have spent alot of time in Manchester recently, I went back to my where my Grandparents lived and I did not recognise the place which was such a shame........

The weather certainly hasn't changed :-)

Allan

Allan Report 14 Nov 2011 22:38

lol Mersey

Whereabouts in Manchester did your grandparents' live.?
I lived initially in Rusholme and then Longsight

Mersey

Mersey Report 14 Nov 2011 22:41

Mainly in Cheadle area, but then spread out around Bury, Heywood and Wythenshawe.....

Was more rural when I was a whippersnapper lol

Do you still have your Manc accent ? ;-)

Allan

Allan Report 14 Nov 2011 22:49

Yep, even after almost 30 years in Australia :-)

I used to know Bury and Heywood quite well. I once worked for the then Middleton Council. My OH was born in Oldham and then lived in Middleton, which is where we met

Mersey

Mersey Report 14 Nov 2011 22:54

My Mum has never lost her accent and she left Manchester 43 years ago.......we all still take the mickey out of her :-D

Do you still get "Mardy" sometimes

I was at your OH area last Wednesday.......

See defintley small world :-D

lol Mersey.

Accents are funny things. When we first arrived in WA in 1982 I got a job in the Northern Goldfields about 900 kms from Perth. My son was six and my daughter was two. When the talked with us they had a Northern accent, but when they played with the Aussie kids they spoke with an Australian accent. They seem to have evened their accents out over the years
