AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 2 Jan 2012 17:47

Here we go then try one of these.

1. two characters, a bird watcher and a smuggler. The conflict is a conspiracy of silence. The weather is a thunderstorm. the setting a boxing match and the object to be included is a car battery.

2. Two characters are a pensioner and an 8 year old child. The conflict is uncovering a secret. The weather is fog. The setting is a family meal and the object to be included is a severed finger.

Or
A Brief encounter
A children’s story using snow, a lake, a horse and a dog.
A poem for January.

Very good Ann :) and perhaps for those who are already writing about family:

A place or person from your childhood, or your family tree :)

Just got in ( cold out there! ) so will send a letter out in a bit to current members and this list of topics to those who have responded ( and other new members who might turn up in the interrim).

I've put on the letter to current members that perhaps we can have the first piece in on or before Jan 15th a week Sunday, which will give us all time to get the Christmas decorations down and get back to 'normal' ( and give time for me to get confirmation of who wants to continue receiving work etc) ...and then perhaps one piece a fortnight or more often if we have time?

BradM

BradM Report 2 Jan 2012 21:00

Hi, What do you have to do if you are a member?

Rambling

Rambling Report 2 Jan 2012 21:23

Hi BM, basically we try to write one piece every week or fortnight ( sometimes more, sometimes less depending on inspiration levels and how busy we are in 'real life') which is sent to the other members for their perusal lol...and sometimes some constructive comments are returned as to how it could be improved :-D

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 2 Jan 2012 21:38

Mau, hadn't realised it was similar but you're right there was a canoe before and no dog.

BradM

BradM Report 2 Jan 2012 21:42

So what is the purpose of it and how do you decide what to write about?

Rambling

Rambling Report 2 Jan 2012 21:54

Well the purpose is enjoyment really :-D I like to write, for my own pleasure and I suppose that applies to all of us in the group...if we then have someone else to read it and give a bit of encouragement so much the better. None of us has ( so far as I know) sent anything to a publisher...but it's not beyond the bounds of possibility :-D

Sometimes, as below, we suggest topics, more often than not though each of us writes something that we have thought of ourselves, inspired by events, or memories, or whatever seems worth writing about :-D

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 2 Jan 2012 21:57

I don't think there is an actual purpose as such. It is for people who want to write and who want to improve their writing. Sometimes we do, as this time when we have subjects to chopose from because we have all got a bit 'lazy'. Other times we write whatever we feel like. although I have not bothered with trying to get them published In 2010 I wrote a 90 chapter novel and last year I wrote a 50something one. sending them out a chapter a week. Others write short stories and other write poems. The poets we have had are excellent too.

Rambling

Rambling Report 2 Jan 2012 21:58

For example I have written quite a bit about my childhood and places I've lived, I scribble some poetry...others do it better but I enjoy it, I sometimes start a story, and get half way through and run out of steam lol... we do a bit of everything really, travel diaries, poetry, romance.... anything goes :-D

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 2 Jan 2012 22:00

I guess we like the 'sound' of our own voices Lol!!!!

Rambling

Rambling Report 2 Jan 2012 22:05

rofl Ann!

but it's a good point, I was very quiet and shy at school but found when writing for English classes that I had 'a voice'.
