Anyone else watch it? What did you think of it?

We were dubious but must admit after watching how tough theyw ere on the applicants at 'boot camp' last night thought it was well done. And the lady who was trying to get them to act their singing............. She'd scare me!! :-0

'Emma' Report 9 Jul 2012 11:38

Ann watched Saturdays and last night show.
Always enjoy this sort of thing, I like to choose
who I think will make a good leading man/woman,
never been right so far. :-D

Morning Ann
No I didn't watch, simply because I'm getting tired of those type of programmes.Saw it advertised and thought, just vehicles for ALW to further expand his bank balance (unless of course he's giving it to charity)

I don't watch these sort of programmes. So many young people go through theatrical training to achieve their ambition only to be usurped by others who want instant celebrity without working at their craft.
As for the advertising for Mr Lloyds Bank........... :-|

Rambling Report 9 Jul 2012 11:56

Yes I did :-D JCS was the first show I saw in the West End when I was 15, I don't think I spoke really for two days after lol.

A lot of the auditions made me cringe, but there are a few who could do it I think, it will be interesting to hear them singing 'Gethsemane'...the acid test !

I like ALW, especially enjoyed him presenting the 'Perspectives' programme on the Pre-Raphaelites, very engaging and knowledgeable...I don't begrudge him his money, he has spent it on some beautiful works of art :-D

The formula has been done to death - so bored with talent shows so I avoid them all now :-( I did watch a bit of the 'Maria' one many moons ago.

I just find it one of those programmes we can watch together which doesn't take too much effort. I felt that some of them actually learnt something from the tutoring and some of them have good voices. However, they have to be 'big' voices with a big personality and charisma to match as this is not for a stage performance but an arena such as O2, very different way of performing as ALW explained when they had to make videos.

Those who watched, did you notice the ones who were not team players in that, very obvious when they were all going in different directions.

I quite like the fellow who played Simba for 3 years in Lion King. I think he could do it, he has a big voice.

I quite like ALW I think he often puts himself down when he is on TV, he does enjoy it though which I find quite endearing. I don't begrudge him his money, he has written some beautiful music which I enjoy and which has given pleasure to many. He has earnt his money.

Rambling Report 9 Jul 2012 12:37

I do think Jonathan Ansell could have done it justice vocally, but he is not a team player and I think it went against him that he would leave one production in the lurch to get this role ( though I can understand why ). I notice the first O2 date is sold out.

'Emma' Report 9 Jul 2012 12:40

I agree with Ann and Rose, his music is beautiful and
gives so much pleasure, more power to him as far as
I'm concerned, his work makes me feel good.

I also liked the chap who played Simba, great voice.
Was pleased to see that blonde chap who was in a
group, left said group and went solo, and was already
in a show and thought nothing of leaving it to try for
this part, not get through. Tickets printed with his name
on them and thought nothing of letting people down who
had bought tickets to see him, he also was trying to tell
the acting coach her job.
Emma
Thats him Rose....

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 9 Jul 2012 12:42

Yes, arguing with the coach was not a good move. He has a great voice but couldn't act as well as some of them. The builder's acting was rubbish too but full marks to him for trying.

Some brilliant voices there, amazing how much talent there is around isn't it?

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 15 Jul 2012 21:42

Love this type of show.

Picked out Roger and Nathan from the first auditions. Not sure that Roger had the right song tonight.

Tim will not get the public vote which is a shame.

Pleased that Andrew included Jon, the reserve, but do not think he will get much further.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 15 Jul 2012 21:45

I have already forgotten who is who, with a couple of exceptions.

Rambling

Rambling Report 15 Jul 2012 21:50

I wrote them down Ann lol, otherwise I get the names mixed with the faces. I have my top 3 (possibly 5 )

Island

Island Report 15 Jul 2012 21:59

Well having said I don't usually watch this type of show, we tuned in just for something to watch this evening and were pleasantly surprised :-D
Real performers, not wannabes :-D

Ben, Tim and Roger did it for me but I think the voters will go for a pretty boy.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 15 Jul 2012 22:24

Do you think they will go for the person who fits their perception of what they have been led to believe Jesus looked like (from Bible stories etc), A couple fitted that bill but were not the best performers necessarily.

Rambling

Rambling Report 15 Jul 2012 22:41

Ann, I'm hoping that lots of the voters will be people who know the music, and what a vocal stretch some of the songs are, rather than youngsters who may never have heard JCS and just go for the pretty boys ( lol now I feel really old!).

Island

Island Report 15 Jul 2012 22:43

Long hair and a beard? lol let's hope not.
The leads I've seen haven't been particularly hairy.

'Emma' Report 16 Jul 2012 10:48

Enjoyed last nights show and have picked my favourites,
can see their faces but can't remember their names :-D

Must say Dawn French made me feel uncomfortable
at times with her remarks.
