Having difficulty typing because curser keeps moving into words I have already typed. Also, script on the pages keeps turning blue, and also a black circle with a line through it appears.

Help please

All Programmes, then accessories, then system tools, then system restore, it should then inform you what to do, just take it back a few days to when it was working ok.

Island

Island Report 12 Nov 2012 14:14

My cursor also jumps into the middle of the text so my typing is inserted into random places.
Mine's a laptop and It might help if I could disable the touchpad but as it seems to be assumed that everyone wants to use that and not a mouse it is not straight forward. I have searched many times and no, a sharp tap on the indentation next to the touchpad doesn't work :-( :-|

Before this thread slips onto the next page, can I just thank those who contributed, and those that tried to help, particularly Merlin and Island.

To the 20 + who had a read, but didn't bother to answer, thank you very much.
But remember, what goes around, comes around.

Mayfield

Mayfield Report 12 Nov 2012 16:28

I think the circle you are describing is the unavailable cursor, a bit like a no entry sign. Perhaps you have a stuck key or another program running in the background,so the computer is trying to do two things at once.
Sorry I can't be anymore technical than that :-(

Best wishes,
Mayfield

Julia Report 12 Nov 2012 16:34

Mayfield, thank you.
Although you say you help, I do understand what you mean.
How to do something about it, well that is another question.

Thanks again

Well Porkie Pie was about earlier on another thread I notice :-S

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 12 Nov 2012 17:21

The problem of the cursor jumping around is fairly common on Windows XP.
Very often it is caused by special software for the mouse / keyboard enabling "advanced" features. One of the worst sinners is Microsoft Intellimouse / Keyboard.

The first time I saw this I thought it was some kind of virus as in extreme cases the whole screen gets the shakes. But no, just a driver bug. If you run the computer in safe mode the jumping cursor will probably not happen.

Fix: remove Intellimouse/keyboard software (or other oem) and revert back to default mouse & keyboard drivers.

Thank you Rollo, very kind of you, to give the information.

Yes Wend, he was on the board, on the next but one thread up from mine.

Son has laptop and young daughter (9) uses it. He's made things easy by using a mouse so no probs. Must be a point somewhere on lappy where mouse can be powered
