Advent begins on the 4th Sunday (closest to St. Andrew's Day) prior to Christmas so it's 2nd December this year.

Each following Sunday, right up to Christmas Day, has it's own theme which prepares people for the events surrounding the Day itself.

That's fine by me................................I'll start on the carols nearer the time and the decs can wait a bit too...... ;-)

Our local card shop had most of its shelves given over to Christmas cards and Christmas bits and bobs by early September.

Once our decorations go up, they stay until Twelfth Night. Turn the room lights off and just sit and watch the ones on the windows and the tree.

Drove by the house down the road a few mins ago and the lights were flashing away. Did look a bit out of place though. Oh and what I forgot to say earlier was that on the day our son was playing Christmas music, his selection of other cds for the day included Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No.2 and Pet Shop Boys. :-D

I agree Liz 47, 'tis far too early.
I've started thinking about presents, but only just, and I shan't do anything about it yet.

Keep Christmas to December (in my book anyway).

A family I know puts their tree & decorations up at the end of November, then on Dec 26th they take the lot down - I'm not surprised they are sick of it so soon.
I guess they don't get the thing about the 12 days of Christmas/12th night/Epiphany.

The staff in my local Morrisons have had to put up with Christmas songs going round in a loop since the beginning of November - they are going stir crazy!

Christmas now seems to dominate a third of the year. It's all about the hard sell, and means pressure, not fun. Just one of those things you have to do.

Ooh, I do sound a miserable sod! Come December, though, I'll get into the swing of it, and enjoy the day when it comes.

Love January, though.

:-) :-)

We are just beginning to plan for Christmas. No decorations up until December though.

Dtr saw some snowman decorations the front window of a house down the road. If they want to start early and it's what they enjoy - each to their own.

But our son loves Christmas music all year round. Heck we were playing it in the summer. Got a funny look from someone who popped in but who cares? I don't tell them what they can play in their house.

Way too early - as is everything to do with Christmas now... :-(

One of the reasons I just don't like it any more.

I saw an advert this week for an event being held at a small stately home near to where I live. One of the features was a pianist playing carols in the Great Hall. As I never seem to know what the date is, I glanced at the newspaper searching for reassurance that it was a typing error. Nope.

.........I love listening to carols but not in the middle of November.-jl
