Good news re CRB checks

Susan with numbers, I too am a Brownie and Rainbow Leader. The rules are you are allowed to work in the unit without a check as long as you are never alone with the girls and you are supervised by another Guider. We are also lucky in that our CRB checks are paid for us which hopefully does not put anyone off joining us.

CRB checks will only pick up 'bad-uns' if they have a record, so if they have never been caught the will get a clean bill of health.

Then you get the young lad of 17 who gets his girlfriend of 15 pregnant, her parents go balistic, he gets taken to court for having sex with a minor and this stays on his records forever. Yes, technically he is in the wrong but.....

Then you get the girl who cries rape and that man is taken to court and it is eventually found out that he is completely innocent - but his name has been in the papers and he is still on police files .....


The CRB checks are not totally infallible, but they go someway to protecting everyone, not just children.
