Sir Alex Ferguson has has just announced he is retiring.

Sir Alex Ferguson is the longest serving manager of Manchester United, overtaking Sir Matt Busby's record on 19 December 2010, and the longest serving of all current League managers. He has won many awards and holds many records including winning Manager of the Year most times in British football history. In 2008, he became the third British manager to win the European Cup on more than one occasion. He was knighted in 1999 for his services to the game.

I am broken hearted but as long there is a chance that the lovely Jose Mourinho will take over I don't mind. It had to come one day but he is a great, grumpy old legend who has devoted his life to this club. He will be missed. <3

Ann, I expect it was the chewing gum that did it. :-D :-D, I wonder if he will take his Famous "Hair Drier" with him? or leave it for the next Manager to use. good luck to him ,he deserves a decent retirement,He served the club well,lets hope they give him a decent send off.**M**.

He is only retiring as the manager, he is to become a director and be an ambassador for the club.

Hardly that important for it to be the headline story on the BBC 1 o'clock news.

Hot favourite for job is David Moyes apparently. Who will succeed him at Everton? I was thinking of 3 managers - Martinez of Wigan, Lennon of Celtic and Bruce of Hull.

Another one for the possible vacancy at Everton. Malky Mackay (Cardiff City) is being touted in this area as the new Everton manager.

Ooohhh!! Isn't this managerial merry-go-round fascinating :-D :-D

And a big well done to Sir Alex. Can't see him bowing out totally. He will be in the boardroom with Sir Bobby and others, and I expect he will take a lot more interest in horse racing and family - particularly careers and lives of his children and grandchildren :-)

I don't fancy David Moyes, he is too quiet and soft spoken...and he is ginger :-D
