There is no need to lock the thread and YES, some members DO come across as cold, critical and pedantic to the outsider. The biggest problem is that they can't or won't admit to it.

terryj also makes a very good point too - some people on this board are singled out for attack on whatever they post. I know....! been there and still getting attacked now.

He goes on to say It is like a school playground situation someone gets picked on and the rest join in so they wont be picked on next.

Sums it up to a tee.

IGP, Surly the point you make would benefit from having a reported thread locked because it would stop anyone from being "singled out for attack" If the thread is locked then no one can add comment so cannot attack, Then the only form of attack would be the constant reporting of threads/posts of the said victim which would then make it easier for GR to identify offenders without having to go through several pages of who said what

That's logic PP

IGP the thing is this is not a school playground, it's a General Chat Board on a Genealogy web site filled with adults not baby's or children stood playing, It's about time some people should see that.

Genealogy site or not there really is no need and this is no place for the rudeness, sniping and downright nastiness that is seen frequently on the boards. Most of us would not behave like that in the real world so why on here?

Rambling

Rambling Report 12 May 2013 13:17

I think it's also important to realise that some posters may be reacting to their 'history' with another who has since chosen to change their board name, and so appears to think that will generate a state of general amnesia in onlookers.

You can't say something nasty or upsetting or untrue under the name 'Fred' and then expect people to forget because you have changed the name to 'Sam'.

eRRolSheep Report 12 May 2013 13:47

I changed my name from ErrolTheSheep to ErrolSheep - does that count?
Or did it fool everyone?

Rambling

Rambling Report 12 May 2013 13:54

lol Errol no I think everyone can see you are a sheep in sheeps clothing :-) it's the wolves in sheeps clothing that I am referring to. :-D the ones who play the 'poor me' and then gobble up unsuspecting Red Riding Hood ;-)

Merlin

Merlin Report 12 May 2013 13:55

No, Unless you changed it to "Errol Sheep loves Mint Sauce" :-D :-D :-D

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 12 May 2013 14:09

Does Red Riding Hood get on here?
Merlin you will give me an apoplectic fit one of these days

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 12 May 2013 14:12

If she needs a hand genealogically speaking I do know that her granny used to live in the forest (am I putting this on the correct board?)

Merlin

Merlin Report 12 May 2013 14:14

You never know who may get on here,Even the "Secret Lemonade Drinker" That Apoplectic Fit Thingy,It it Catching? If so can one have an Injection against it like other things. :-D :-D

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 12 May 2013 14:23

I'm afraid that once it starts it is very difficult to keep under control and can often be exacerbated although I am sure that there must be some sort of medication or injection against it, like other things as you rightly say.

Nudge, nudge, ;-) ;-)

Have the boards been deserted by our new Community Manager ?

The Message Board Use thread that was on General Chat has been deleted and thankfully it did not get out of hand as I thought it might have done. What was the reason for the deletion?

Questions asked directly have not been answered which is the norm for the Team anyway.

Slightly puzzled by this statement:
We do not like to ban any members, and instead prefer to have a conversation with the member and see if it is an issue we can overcome.

Did not happen with me as all over and done in less than a couple of hours. The problem about not answering questions is still happening.

This is General Chat GB. The thread has not been deleted. :-S

Hi Glitter Baby, I’ve been on annual leave the last couple of days. Which thread are you referring to please?

This thread had disappeared, Island, and Natasha, and has reappeared today.

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 15 May 2013 12:03

Really strange as this disappeared yesterday lunchtime about 1pm

Certainly was not on here late last night

Island

Island Report 15 May 2013 12:09

I assumed the thread had been unstickied Joy but it isn't really important.

TBH I was quite pleased to see it had slipped down the boards as, unlike the same notice on Genealogy Chat (where it was posted during the previous day in response to an issue on that board) it was boardering on argumentitive. It is very telling to see that the few posts on Genealogy were few and polite with no finger pointing.

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 15 May 2013 12:16

So why is it still stickied on Genealogy Chat

Really losing the plot with this site ;-)

:-D
