Food rationing - How would people manage today?

We don't eat much processed food, I enjoy cooking and prefer to use fresh ingredients. We have a well stocked pantry and freezer, and I can usually rustle up a mean from scratch. For health reasons We both have to stick to an healthy diet, but about once a month we have home cooked chips in light oil, its the highlight of OHs day. I have noticed OH sons partners use a lot of processed food, ready meals and take a ways, for convenience I suppose, but they always demolish what ever I cook when they are at our house. I am not sure how the younger generation would manage

We had cooking lessons at school, I am not sure if they do so today.

Don't remember marzipan potatoes Nolls and I thought marzipan was hard to get as my mum made marzipan for the top of Christmas cake with Madeira or plain cake mixed with Almond essence as we couldn't get the real thing.

Remember the bartering,also you could swap your jam ration for sugar and we did this when the fruit season started so you could make jam.

My mum also made lovely cakes as we had a back to back oven ...open fire in the sitting room and a black leaded oven in the kitchen with about 3 rings for pans and the oven heated the room as well as cooking the lovely meals.....you could pull the damper and the fire roared underneath to the oven.it heated the water in the. Cylinder as well...and the pipes warmed the Lino on the floor in my bedroom.

We were tough then and had to get up in the cold winter nights sometimes when the siren went to go to the cold Anderson shelter at the bottom of the garden.
