Before I get shot down in flames - this is just my own point of view

I think its basically a good idea - but wont take up the offer as find I have so little free time to be able to agree a time frame for a review -

I agree with some of the points made and think they are very valid and think a little more thought needed to go into the idea before it was put into print by the GR team -Overseas members - Large print & kindles (not that I have one) they all need to be considered

If you don't want your name & address passed on then you don't have to sign up to join - it really is that simple

I don't think GR had any intention to offend anyone - I just think they are trying to find ways to please their members. I wouldn't mind being on their team to offer constructive feedback.

The only problem is that most people want the old GR back (including the old style tree) before this new company took it over & turned it into the commercial disaster it is now. If its not broken don't fix it -

However It does seems that what ever the GR team try to do they get moaned at in all directions.

I am prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt and try some of the ideas - if they don't work then I send them a message on the relevant thread as feedback - If its not something I want to do or join in I just ignore it.

I originally joined to get help with my tree & as somewhere sensible where I could ask for advice & in so doing have found some excellent friends which is a wonderful bonus & both them & GR helped me get through some very stressful & painful times when I was stuck at home with an illness & for that friendship & help I will always be grateful.

End of my Sunday soapbox session

GR have a wine sponsor as well...don't they?

Seems a tad superfluous to add a "Book Club" Board.

Then again....

What will be next-the Really Really Living Rellies Board?

Hi everyone,

Just thought I would answer a few more of your questions.

For those members living abroad, yes you will still be able to receive the free books. We will post to any of our international members.

I have emailed our contact at Penguin to ask if there are any audio cd's or alternative formats of the books available for those members with restricted eyesight.

I think there may be a misunderstanding, we are not creating a new board for the Book Club, it will be a thread within the new Hobbies and Crafts board.

None of the Genes development team's time has been used to establish the book club, it is being managed by the marketing team on a trial basis.

We hoped that the Book Club would be seen as an additional benefit of being a member of Genes Reunited. No one is under any obligation to take part, but if you would like to receive a free book each month and participate in the discussions and reviews then we hope you will join. As a lot of you have mentioned, there is less activity on the boards of late, and we hope that this will give people a reason to come here and participate in discussions. Although the boards are primarily here for people to get help and discuss family history related topics, we know it is also a place where people make friends, and we encourage you to keep in touch and discuss other topics that you are interested in.

Thanks

Thank you for having removed the superfluous full stop in the link in the opening post in http://www.genesreunited.co.za/boards/board/general_chat/thread/1331113 in the general board.

Also, thank you for the advice that it is a worldwide book club.

Sorry GlitterBaby - I'm not sure. Penguin have only sent us the titles of the first 2 books, both of which will be fiction.

Tabitha mentions that she believes Genes are only looking at ways to please their members,

One sure fire way - get the site to work properly, I am sure that would please many of them!!!

We still have books to give away as part of this month's book club. If you would like to receive a free copy of Sinead Moriarty's 'This Child of Mine' just send a message to the GenesBookClub account with your address and a book will be posted to you.
