positive thoughts for me and for my o.h.

He has to have a medical 'procedure' today at 12.30pm, won't be in hospital overnight unless things don't go so well but I will probably pick him up about 5pm. Suffice to say my name will be mud if I go over the slightest road hump or pothole on the way back! He will be sore and grumpy and has to have at least a week off depending how well he heals!

He has been very cagey about the op, not telling many people and thought at first he could go back to work on Monday, silly man.

He is absolutely terrified, he is having a general anaesthetic so will be a bit woozy when he comes back, am hoping he will sleep most of the evening.

If I say it's not a vasectomy but similar area and it's usually done when men are babies, you might guess what's happening.

Oh the next week is going to be a difficult one, guess who will be needing to go out on errands quite often just to get away lol

Liz, let's hope he sleeps a lot. Grandson had to have something similar. It probably won't be as bad as he thinks, but we know men and 'that' area. They have no idea what women endure, do they?

I hope so too lol Maggie. Yes, men are very precious about their bits. aren't they? I did mention to o.h. that years back I had to have an op that was as uncomfortable and also I have been through childbirth, something men would never do more than once I think lol

There was a problem on Embarrassing Bodies the other week, and I recorded it for him, didn't realise they showed the op etc. The chap said it was very painful afterwards, well that put o.h. in a frenzy of fear lol We have lots of paracetamol and ibuprofen handy, says on the paperwork to make sure you have purchased plenty of painkillers for afterwards. You would think they would provide the first few days worth!

It's a shame the op is today ( he had a choice of dates given him last week and he wanted the soonest to get it over with) - an ex colleague of his is having a 70th birthday bash tonight and we won't be able to go now. The chap will be disappointed as he and o.h got on well when working together until the man retired 5 yrs back.

I don't think o.h. will be riding his bike to work anytime soon either lol

I feel for you both Liz. My brother had the same op quite a few years ago when he was in his 60's.He walked as though he had been riding a horse for about a week, poor thing. As you said men would not be able to cope with childbirth would they. I feel for anyone having to have an op but my sympathies lie with you pet having to cope with a man in pain afterwards. I think you need to find a nice coffee shop to visit often next week .lol. wishing you both well. ;-) <3 <3

Thinking of you Liz.
Women are much more accepting of the indignities we have to put up with.
There wouldn't be as big a population if men had the babies??
Do wish him well though...no medical procedure is nice..I have colonoscopy coming up again in about 3 weeks, don't like the prep...but suppose its best to get on with it!.

Good luck to your man for today Liz.

One tip for him is after a shower, dry Percy using the cool setting of a hairdryer ;-)
Son had it done when he was 2 & that's what we were advised as it is gentler than rubbing with a towel!

Dont forget a comb :-D :-D :-D

Shall be thinking of you, and him of course. It is always scary facing a general, and any op in that area, male or female is not pleasant at all. I hope it won't be as bad as he thinks and that the after effects won't be as bad as you expect.
Mildreds advice is good, daughter was given that advice after having stitches with childbirth. :-)

Hi Liz, hope things go well for your OH and the pain will not be as bad as he expects.
Will be thinking of you doing your 'nursing' bit, I think the suggestion of finding a nice coffee shop to visit frequently is a good idea, keep you sane, xxx

Hi Liz
Hopefully he will get lots of sleep after and you can relax. I hope it all goes well for him.

I did have to smile at this bit in your opening post...

"He has been very cagey about the op, not telling many people"

I hope he never reads this thread or your name will be a lot worse than mud

Well I left him there being very brave, got there at 11am and he wasn't called in until nearly 12 after which I poodled off in the car to get a particular whisky for his father for F.D. as he is sure he will be well enough to deliver it ?????? Found a new charity shop near the shop he sent me to, so had a browse and got some bargains, and now at home for a little while having a sandwich and cuppa. Will go back in the direction of the hospital soon as they have my mobile number and will then be nearer when they call, it's over 8 miles from here and I know he will want to get home asap

Problem is nearly every route has speed bumps etc, can see it will be a long way home and watching out for potholes as well.

I shall certainly be going out on several errands next week leaving him to watch tv in his recliner, popping painkillers!

Wendy, he never goes on sites like this nor do his friends or family, I haven't commented on facebook lol

Anyway men should be more open and able to talk about these things, as with stuff like prostate cancer etc. If you had heard him trying to tell his Dad over the phone, without mentioning the word, I kept whispering in the background Snip snip! Then I shouted out, Oh by the way, he's not having a vasectomy! O.h.'s face was a picture! I had already told his son before we visited last week so it wasn't so long winded talking to him about it.

Heyho, off I go.....

Thanks for all the good wishes and suggestion re hairdryer! Knowing him he will flick the wrong switch and scorch himself.

Gwen, stop laughing, you will set me off!

Presumably that was on his phone. I hope it doesn't fall into the wrong hands. Is he intending to sue if he doesn't like how it looks?
