Not sure, Belle, but it isn't now. I know a couple who married who are 1st cousins.

I think they would have to consider any inherited health issues though.

Yes, OH had a couple of first cousins who married :-D Perhaps it was just taboo because of any health issues :-D

In small communities years ago, that had limited opportunities to meet other young people from outside their communities, it was the norm to marry cousins. Everyone was related to everyone else in small communities then! :-D

Yes Joy the same Andy Murray when he wins is British

It was a story line on my fav Welsh Soap, Pobol Y Cwm, that one of the female characters, who was getting married, found out that her fiance's ex-wife was her illegitimate daughter that she had when she was 16 and had been adopted out.

So her step-daughter was also her Granddaughter.

Her other daughter found out that it was not a legal marriage but kept it to herself!
So the marriage went ahead.
