Mavis, I thought you said you were from NZ. My AA maps have about 28 places beginning with I. Where, roughly do you live? There is a naval station in the middle of the N. Island, on the volcanic plaeau. Can anybody name it? Yes I did say a naval station. Quite a surprise when you are driving along a long way from the sea to suddenly see it. |

I have 7 or 8 more Js on my AA maps. When you have at least 3 of them you can move on to K. The Ks should keep you busy until I get home from a meeting in about 5 hrs time. (Meeting doesnt start for 2 & half hrs yet. There are plenty of Ks.) |

When I was a teenager I used to pore over the AA maps. I always wanted to visit Karamea, mainly because it seemed to be the place most out of the way but accessible by road. Finally made it with my OH when I was in my 40s. Beautiful fish and chips in the nearby village of Granity. Come on, what about the place named after a bird? |
