Hello all.......sorry if Gaynor seems to have been out of touch today but she has been to work with me - she has had a lovely day....fussed over - photographed - petted and generally loved and she is lovely....made everyones heart melt - even my husband who waved us off to Whitby saying 'Goodbye Bear' Photographs will be available as soon as possible - basically as soon as I have found out how to do it.....theres a first time for everything....... It was also great to meet Andy Oop North and Dawn and her family....her husband has promised to make me look thinner and 20 years younger on his photos...I even suggested Liz Hurley but I think thats asking a bit much Gaynor is working magic....funds for Cancer Research and bringing members of GR together....and it has been a pleasure to take part

First press News Guardian, Thur 28th April 2005 Charity Bear given Priory sendoff on its British tour A teddy bear relay aimed at raising funds for a cancer charity kickstarted in Tynemouth. The event has been organised by a national group of family history researchers who met on the Genes Reunited website, who were inspired by a long-term member, Gaynor Fear, who recently lost her battle against cancer. Now a pink teddy bear named after her has begun a memorial fundraising tour around Britain, starting at Tynemouth Priory, in which money is hoped to be raised for the Pink Fund, an official fundraising committee of Cancer Research UK. The fund has already raised over £10,000 since September last year from events such as auctions, parties, genealogy meet-ups and raffles. Member of the GR site Jenny from Tynemouth was on hand to join in the relay's launch. She said 'The teddy will now be escorted by a network of family history enthusiasts.' xx Well done Jenny & the North!

Hi Laura. Group 2 has sorted out their little problem. I think we now have to decide if GB stays wth Sue in Otley at the middle of the leg or not. I am rather confused as to when GB could possibly appear on TV, and with who? GB is in their area now. Who is willing to go on TV with her? and at what leg of the race? Sue in Otley can only do her bit of a weekend. Obviously weekends are the best for some to do their leg. Advise needed please. Jenny. x

Jenny It is a choice of GB going on the next leg of the relay straight away like you want me to do or GB going on TV. CALENDAR that is the programme that GB would be on it is only televised Monday to Friday at 6pm. It's OK by me if she doesn't go on tv and you want me to pass GB over to Gem on the Saturday 7th of May. But If you want her to appear on Tv then she would have to stop in Otley for the week end and I DON'T mind going on TV with her.. As you say Jenny I can only pass GB over at week ends that is because I work full time and do not get home until 5pm every night. I think that if you want GB on the next leg of the relay we should DROP GB's TV appearance. Sue Laura og Group 3 Iwon't be getting GB until 6th of May and she has to do 4 legs after me so GB won't be with you the earliest 11/12th of May. Sue

Area Group 2. I did not anticipate Gaynor Bear being in your area for two weeks. Sorry, my mistake. This is why I have been getting confused. I thought Sue would be getting GB this weekend. Then she would be appearing on TV at the begining of this next week, leaving the rest of the week and the following weekend for the next 4 legs before being handed over to Group 3 around Sunday/Monday 8th & 9th. But now I have been told different. If you could let me know what GB will be doing, who with and where, during this weekend and next week, it would help me keep track of her (as I shall have the press and the public asking where she is in the relay) and give me some idea as to when Group 3 can take her. I would like GB to appear on TV. I am sure she will make many appearances during the course of the relay. Thanks, Jenny. xx To all Areas. Please remember it is not what I want that matters, it is how convenient each leg in each area is to all concerned. But what I am concerned about is members in other areas being ready and waiting, then not being able to take part and having to drop out due to other commitments eg. Holidays etc. Then having a knock on effect in all the rest of the areas. I know this is not a race. Some members have said it does not matter if it takes GB a year to get round. Some have said they are worried that people will loose interest or cease to be members of Genes Reunited. Thanks, Jenny. xx

Hiya - have seen the photos on GC photospage, and they're really good. Jenny, thank you for the write-up and sponsor sheet. I'm hoping to send copies of the write-up to the local press and TV people. I also suggested to Dawn (Devonshire Dumpling) that perhaps we could take Gaynor Bear to the 2 local hospices. One of these is a children's hospice, and I know they'd love to meet her! A supporter of the local organisation is a national celebrity (name to be advised in due course, if we're successful!!) so I'll be sending a copy to that person, too. Wish us luck! Glenys x
