Remember Mark Lester - he who played Oliver but never sang a note! What I hear you say? More on that later. Here is the question - who played Fagin and The Dodger?

PennyDainty

PennyDainty Report 1 Feb 2005 00:58

Fagin was Ron Moody i think and Dodger was Jack Wilde. Mark Lester and jack Wild were on TV last year and I wouldn't have recognised either of them. Of course drink and drugs wasted Jack Wild and Mark lester apparently went that route too but got out earlier. Poor Jack Wild looked really ill, nothing like the cute little lad he had been. Sad.

Pat Report 1 Feb 2005 01:07

didnt like Mark lester, too angel fied?? or whatever. Yeah know what you mean when you see what life does to people, wanna see me lol. Remember him in the 1970's, he was a lad though werent he? Prefer the Oliver Twist film dont like people keep bursting into song, gets on my nerves it does. although "gotta pocket or two" and a couple of others were alright just gets overpowering too many of em.

Pat

Pat Report 1 Feb 2005 01:08

Strange but true - this is the article I read: The angelic voice of the young orphan Oliver Twist in the hit 1960's movie was dubbed by a woman. Speculation has swirled for years over the origin of the high voice, given that Mark Lester who played the title part in the film has admitted to not being able sing a note. But the 'Mail on Sunday' tracked down Kathe Green, who 36 years after the event said she was the voice of Oliver. "I was 20 and got paid about 400 pounds." The film of the Charles Dickens classic won six oscars in 1969, including best picture. Lester, then 9, beat 2000 other boys to win the role, which turned out to be his cinematographic debut and pinnacle. He now makes a living as an osteopath. **** And further to that I found the Mark Lester site and the films he was in the Oliver site lists Kathe Green is listed as uncredited as the singing double. It also says his last film was made in 1978. Now we know. We all know who Mr Bumble was don't we? Whilst on that I recall a mid 1970's film where his character wants to have sex - a rather strange film whose title escapes me at the moment.
