Gillian

Gillian Report 6 Feb 2013 19:12

Oh, I see, of course, that makes perfect sense!
Thank you for the time you have taken to bother with all my queries. I have learnt a lot!

Best wishes

Mother's maiden name

If you buy their marriage cert, you'll find out if she'd been married before.

If she had, your search for possible children will be made using her maiden name

What does MMN stand for? I'm not really interested in Elsie's background, only whether she and Frederick, who is in my direct line, had children which they don't seem to have done.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 5 Feb 2013 23:40

Not until March 20th!!!!!

You may have to consider that Elsie had also been married before, in which case, the MMN on any birth reg'n would not have been Young.

Sorry, 72!!!

Gillian

Gillian Report 5 Feb 2013 18:22

PS 'born exactly 20 years before me' makes you 112???

Gillian

Gillian Report 5 Feb 2013 18:20

Yes, it is him, Frederick Horatio Murray Barley the 1911 census living with father Percy etc. He did marry Rosa Warren and produced my father (Ernest Murray Barley) and a daughter (Lorna Alice). Fdrk and Rosa divorced in 1926 and then in 1928 he married ElsieYoung in Guildford. Looks like I have wrongly attributed the children, Doris, Jean and Ray to this Barley/Young marriage but that in fact they belong to the Robert Barley/Doris Young marriage, which makes sense of the firstborn daughter's name. If Frdk and Elsie had no issue, then I have no reason for further search for living relatives!!

It might be prudent to delete all the info you've posted about the living people who are not related to you, and start again doing research on the correct names

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 5 Feb 2013 16:40

Ancestry is the source of all the info I posted which wasn't on freebmd

If Frederick was your relative.............he doesn't appear to have produced any legitimate children

Is THIS him?

Oh yes, of course, I see I have been confused in this exchange. I do have the 1928 marriage as taking place in Guildford. And sorry meant to type born in 1928' not died in 1928' I knew she was Beech, so shouldn't have referred to her as Barley. Please forgive my amateurisms!
Would you possibly share the search sites that you use and for what? Form start there is no electoral roll on GR, so I should perhaps be using something else.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 5 Feb 2013 14:01

I never use GR for research, so am unable to comment on the usefulness of what they offer.

Everything they have is taken from other sources, anyway...........

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 5 Feb 2013 14:00

NO......you're wrong

The 1928 marriage was NOT in Edmonton..........it's posted above, and I would have thought you would have researched it anyway

Doris married BEECH......you said so yourself!

And you mis-read what I wrote! Which was.............

'The person born in 1928 was NOT named BARLEY when/if she died'

To locate the Edmonton marriage, I merely used a bit of logic ...........researched the names on the ER

Gillian

Gillian Report 5 Feb 2013 13:52

So, it would seem that two Barleys married two Young's within a year of each other, both registered in Edmonton! The Barleys weren't brothers, maybe the Youngs were sisters, but all enough of a coincidence to confuse me. What search did you carry out to find the Richard and Doris marriage and what made you look at those names, can I ask? And I don't quote understand the part about 'the person who died in 1928 was not named Barley when/if she died'. Could you perhaps expand there please?
Thank you v much.

Gillian Report 5 Feb 2013 12:10

Sent above before reading your last post, sorry!

Gillian

Gillian Report 5 Feb 2013 12:05

Poss that Robert Alfred Barley senior (30 in 1911, therefore born 1881) could be brother of Percy Barley born 1877, so will check out census. However, beginning to doubt Genes Reunited census records as they have no trace of the Robert Alfred Barley household in the 1911 census that you just sent me!?! in your experience, are some family history search sites more comprehensive in their coverage of searchable data than others?
ThNk you for your time.

ErikaH Report 5 Feb 2013 11:26

The births are on Ancestry.co.uk......

I'm sorry, but ALL the facts show that the children belong to ROBERT and DORIS.......I don't think you have purchased birth certs - or have you?

Why would the children be living with people other than their parents?

The 1984 death is for the MOTHER of these 'children'

The person born in 1928 was NOT named BARLEY when/if she died

When you re-apply for the marriage cert.........use only ONE person's name....

Could I ask you a little more about the Ancestry records for births from Coletta/Barley and Beech/Barley? How can I access these, is it Ancestry.com.
Thank you.
