I'm sure you are right, I agree with the need to reduce the amount of baggage that is attached - I just wonder if Genes reads these notes and would consider changes?

GlitterBaby Report 24 May 2013 11:24

There were problems earlier this week when the site stopped working and produced error messages.

I believe that some members were getting a very old message being displayed.

BUT just got the error messages when clicked on My Threads.

GlitterBaby Report 24 May 2013 15:41

My Threads is the most useful bit of this site for me and again got an error message.

GB ..................

and GR

I got that message earlier this week re site being down for maintenance ............ dated 12 November 2012 :-S

The site was down for approximately 35-40 minutes, between 00:20 am and 00:55 am, Wednesday May 22.

It apparently crashed at about 00:20 am.

A notice saying down for essential maintenance, 12 November 2012 went up at about 00:48 am.

The site was back in action by about 00:55 am

GR did respond on their FB page, at 1:12 am Wednesday May 22 .................... "sorry for the inconvenience, the site is running fine now."

I am also now getting error messages when trying to open My Threads ................... this has been going on for about a week.

It sometimes takes 2 or 3 attempts to open My Threads.

Very frustrating

I keep geting the 404 file not found or moved error message!!

I get this everytime i look at someone elses tree and try to send a member to the clip board..... I'm rather frustrated by this as I am a new member just starting out my tree and of course I have spent money on something that isn't working properly.

*feeling a tad scammed* :-|

GR is such an annoying site and I wish they would sack their Marketing Manager as I'm fed up with constantly emailing screen shots of the Ancestry ads that appear on the boards.

I emailed screen shots a week ago and the ads are still there. :-|

Not Happy.

I get ads for things I've googled Gai like trip adviser or Ebay and have had the odd ancestry ad

I don't think it is down to GR

Gai I would take the stance of if GR can't be bothered sorting it once and for all (you've been notifying them for a few years now) then why should I . It's their problem an you've done your best to bring it to their attention.

They are obviously happy advertising their competitors

Gai

Gai Report 27 May 2013 12:34

Jax,

I've been told by Estelle that GR do have the capacity to have the ads removed from the boards and there not meant to be there in the first place. You would think after the first time I reported this issue a few years ago they would have put a permanent stop to it.

I notice on the UK site there is an ad for Retirement advice etc on the banner across the top of the screen. All week I've seen the Ancestry ad and I can't believe it's still there after all this time. Seems like no one works at GR as many still have error messages and I still see ads. :-|

TootyFruity, you are probably right and I don't know why I bother in the first place. Must be a mug!

Oh, Ok then just a thought

Gai Report 27 May 2013 13:33

Jax, it's interesting that Ad Choices who puts the advertising on GR also puts their ads on FMP and I've never seen an Ancestry ad on FMP.

The mind boggles.

Gai you're not a mug just someone who cares about the site. :-)

Gai

Your ref to ads on GR

Do you realise that both GR and Findmypast are owned by BrightSolid?
So advertising will be common between them (GR and FMP)

Ancestry and Bright Solid are likely to be at each other's throats. :-S

PeeEmm,

Yes I'm aware that GR and FMP are owned by Brightsolid and I have a sub to FMP that's why I know the ads don't appear on FMP.

There is normally one ad on FMP

Thanks TootyFruity. :-)

Note: As I've typed this message sitting at the bottom of the screen is the ad for ancestry.com.au. :-S
