Lorraine thanks so much. I just found out yesterday whilst seacrching that the Haighs had gone to USA.

Arthur and Hannah are on Ellis Island Passenger List arriving New York Mar 2nd 1915 having sailed from Liverpool aboard the SS Cameronia. They were going to join Harry Haigh in New York. Arthur is a Clerk, Hannah is a spinster/spinner (can't make it out). Next of kin in Huddersfield is father John Haigh of 25 Bankwell Terr, Milnsbridge, Huddersfield.

Arthur born 1893 Huddersfield was a Wool Mixing Clerk in 1911. Hannah born 1897. She is age 14 Woollen Weaver on 1911 census.

Don't know what Shenectady was like in 1915 but Milnsbridge in Huddersfield was pretty grim (still is in fact). You've heard of dark satanic mills well that was Milnsbridge!!

Thanks Jennifer

Hi Lorraine

I tried to post a reply earlier but it doesn't seem to have worked. If it has and I've missed it then apologies for duplicating.

That's the right family. By 1911 they have split up. The mother has remarried, David L and Winifred are in the workhouse, Jessie is with relatives and the father has disappeared. I can't find out what happened to him. It's all a bit mysterious and I know from family stories that something happened but can't get any idea of what it might be.

If you can find anything out about David L that would be great.
Many thanks

Sarah

Lorraine thanks for all that I shall inwardly digest,

I saw on the Ellis Island site that Arthur and Hannah were down twice and wondered why.

Have just been reading up about Schenectady. After Milnsbridge they must have though they had gone to heaven

Thanks for looking Lorraine. This family is so frustrating.

It's a long shot but if you have time can you look for him in Canada? His service record says New York but his sister Winifred Read married a Ukranian Tytus Skirsyk (that is how it is spelt on the wedding certificate but I guess it may vary) and went to Canada so I guess he could have gone there instead.

Many thanks

Hi Loraine
You kindly tried to find one of my ancestors on the US census, and I now have another very vague request, not sure you will be able to do anything with such little information but thought it might be worth a shot.

I am trying to trace what happened to a Mabel Pearson born 1880 in Shanghai. I have her on the 1891 census in Angelsey, Wales. All I know about her is she apparently married a Richie Stanley and they moved to the US.

Vague I know, I assume she married around 1895 and have failed to find her on the UK records, can you help any

Thanks

Vicki
