Hi Lorraine
My great uncle went to Quebec via Glasgow in 1923 his family followed in 1924. They were all born Aberdeen -
Found his wife and daughters in Wayne, Michigan in 1930 census. Found his WWII draft Registration card for 1942 with his address as 68-49 Burns Street, Forest Hills, L1, Kings, New York.
Think he and his wife split as his contact given on this was a Rose Hardie. in Brooklyn, New York.
Cannot find anything on him after this, or his wife and daughters.
He is Frederick William Hardie b 26/2/1896.
Married Maggie Smith b 23.3.1899.
Daughters Margaret Smith Hardie b Nov 1919
Eliza Barrack Hardie b Nov 1921.
Maggie received naturalisation 6 June 1929
Fred received naturalisation 19 Sept 1939.

Lorraine,
Thank you so much for the look up on my Gaynor's.
The 1910 census looks like them going by the mothers name Agnes and his brother's name William as both names run in the family.
The 1930 census is the right one as the Good family are with him.
I just have to try and work out which one is his death.
This is much appreciated.

HI Lorraine
A couple of days ago you kindly found Hywell Evans on the US Census list for me in 1910, living as a boarder in Suffolk, Massachusetts. I have just re-read a family history that was written by my great grandfather and although it is a little jumbled, I think it states that Hywell had at least 2 sons, John Lloyd Evans and Roger Evans. I am afraid I have no idea of birth year, although would assume this was sometime between 1910 (when Hywell is listed as single age 32, on the US census) and 1925 which I am guessing at as an age he was likely to become a father! who knows though! I know by 1957 Roger is definately an adult and Hywell is still alive as I have a letter written by him and I get the impression he was born around a similar time to my grandfather and his sisters so from around 1910, 1912 ish.

Could you please check the US census in 1920 and 1930 to see if anything comes up under John Lloyd Evans and Roger Evans, father being Hywell Evans.

Many thanks

Vicki

Lorraine, I can't thank you enough, that is great.

I have no idea how recent the US census records go, is there anyway to trace John Lloyd and Roger B Evans? I have this letter from 1957, written to my Grandfather from Roger and in it, he talks of his father Hywell and in 1957, he still sounds very much alive so I guess he died 1960 onwards.

Thank you for all your help

Victoria Report 29 Nov 2009 22:57

Hi Lorraine
Thanks for looking, the letter was more of a handwritten note of about 6 lines attached to the front of a family history with Roger Evans' name on it, reference to his father Hywell and a date, so no clue as to where it was sent from. I now wonder if it was the UK< will get on ancestry and check this out!

Many thanks again

Hi Lorraine
Yes,that's the correct COOPER family in 1861. Its possible that they could have gone to Canada. 2 brothers of Jane COOPER (nee GILBERT) went to Ontario,Canada & settled in Holland Landing/Bradford,Ontario. One brother John later to went to Wisconsin.

I have more information on them if this could help in the search. And also Jane's Aunt ,Ann CHAPMAN (nee BATES), lived in Holland Landing.

Thanks
Kerri

sorry nothing for a marriage for either of them unfortunatley usa is not like uk where all marriages are available it depends on the state as to what is available and they are hit and miss really

You could try familysearch.org under search drop down to pilot search, they are constantly indexing new records from usa and you may be lucky it is free too.

Jalanne Report 3 Dec 2009 08:13

Hi Lorraine - thanks for your offer of lookups.
Arthur Slater was born in Leeds in 1894, son of Edward Wood Slater and Lucy Horrox. He travelled out to Canada, Toronto in 1913 when his sister died in tragic circumstances. We don't think he returned to England. Not sure if this is a big ask, but if you can find any travel information for him, between Canadan and England, between 1913 and 1921.
Arthur was hit by a train (and killed) whilst working for Hydro at Niagara Falls Ontario. 21st Feb 1921. We know he was a 'returned soldier' and presume he had been in the Canadian Army. If you could find any army records relating to him that would be wonderful - please.
He was unmarried, but believe he had left a fiance behind in Leeds.
If i'm asking too much then the war records are the most important.
Many Thanks - Judith
