Not there in 1881 though.

LadyKira Report 9 Aug 2009 17:17

not in 1901 either

Mary Report 9 Aug 2009 17:36

On 1981 Mary ellen Ekho,John and Ada at 19,Vescox Street,Liverpool
1891 They are down as Eckhs but looking at the original it says Eckho
32,Benledi St,Liverpool.
No sign either in hagar name or other.

They probably hadn't changed their name before 1890 as henry was born 1898 under the name Eckho according to Ancestry.

Mary Report 9 Aug 2009 17:51

Strange about that,I have just read about Lydia's baptism, being Hagar.

Elizabeth Report 9 Aug 2009 19:24

whey hey hey!! well done you christine!!! hey hey i am dancing around the living room :) I just cant stand it when cant find the informaton!

in regards to the years they were at benledi street.

I am a tentative link to a 4 arlington street? 31/12/84 a thomas henry ehiem?? somthing like that was the child of john and mary ellen He was born 14/11/1884?? again dont have a record of a thomas at all so may have to park this one?

Also another john ehelem?? sothing like that again child of john and mary ellen but he was born 06/4/1887 and christened 16/04/1887 now they were living at tatlock stret? and a carpenter?? think this one is not right or linked?? i

right i go back and update some of the names!!
geat stuff!

Elizabeth Report 9 Aug 2009 21:02

mmmm.. the plot thickems// i do searches for eckhart and they are now in devon... mmmmmmm the fact i live in devon! hahah weird...

so i have to establish when the name changed and to what? would their be court records? or them days did they just change it?

again liz

Mary Report 10 Aug 2009 09:19

Normally the name on your birth certificate has to be the same on your marriage certificate ie Johan Eckeho should be the correct spelling, but would have got written down in various other ways.

I did she some one in london from germany with the surname Hagar so maybe that name also was german.
Still can't find any of them in whatever name for 1901.

Mary Report 10 Aug 2009 14:40

1911 census they were at 31,Boyd St,Everton liverpool.
John,mary e Ellen,hannah,William,Lydia and henry all there.
They certainly moved about on henry's war records mary Ellen widow at 5,Daniel Street.
Its annoying me that i can't find 1901 records for them.

mgnv Report 10 Aug 2009 15:25

Mary - "Normally the name on your birth certificate has to be the same on your marriage certificate".

This was actually never the case - what the name on your marriage cert HAS to be is your legal name. Normally, this is the name on your birth certificate, but if you've legally changed it, e.g., by starting to call yourself by another name without any fraudulent intention, then you should use your new legal name.

Elizabeth Report 10 Aug 2009 20:35

Thanks ann,, you seem to have found them more than me!!! but its still weird why we cant find them in 1901?? Must be some secret :)

I have got some pictures today from my nan. I am still searching for both names. I would like to know why and when he came to britain. I have found haga in america and they say its of german line? but no real firm stuff about my line.

A bit frustrated!

My nan has also sent me some photos of her mother Evelyn robinette (edna) and her sister josophine. It sort of brings my tree to life :) How fantastic i started this when my grandparents are alive :)

right back to google.. why oh why cant we find them in 1901?? what was happening in 1901?? in liverpool??

again liz

Elizabeth Report 10 Aug 2009 21:33

I have just had a though after googling and finding that in 1890 to 1911 liverpool went througha slums regeneration program. Massive amount of houses were build to house the familys in the slums.. I am thinking,, would a german family be given a house? if they were not from england? did they have to have a points system??

Maybe to get out of the slums they changed their name? though they would get more points? Thay said he was fram hanover.. haga??.. think i am clutching at straws with this one but it is killing me,, why change to haga and why? change... just writing out loud with this one :)))
back to google I go :)
thanks liz

Elizabeth Report 10 Aug 2009 22:45

ok i may have found something but not sure its relevant. I found a john Eckhard at age 48? were in 1901!!?? a convict! at grove portland dorset. He is classed as married?? but the only ting that dont mach is that he was a south african british national. i was wondering did the family move to devon? to be near dad??

mmm going to park this one :)

again liz

LadyKira Report 10 Aug 2009 22:50

I am musing a little

I wonder how echeho was pronounced

If the ech was one gutteral sound would we end up which woul sound something like Hagar to an English ear.

Any German experts on here?

Elizabeth Report 10 Aug 2009 22:58

ooooooooooooo,,, now saying it out loud,, !! we must be some german experts?? on here?

LadyKira Report 10 Aug 2009 23:54

Elizabeth Report 11 Aug 2009 00:24

thanks christine, i have just done the thread.. the plot is thickening. I have spoke to another family member about John hagar and she has said family rumour is that he was an illegal imagrant? so thats why the change of name. Also rumours the line was linked to prussion?? but all rumours,,,, and nothing solid,,, will have to get his marriage certificate i think!! that may do it,,?? finding a birth certificate?? german on the censsors?

mmmmmmmm i am going to bed!
