Kath..have changed my mind again.......Robert Tattersall 1770...father of George Tattersall 1793 (who probably possibly...married mary Hutchinson 1796 in 1821) was the son if isaac...which may mean that George Tattersil...ignore the spelling for a moment..1780.who may have married mary marsden ..may have been the brother of Robert..therefore the uncle of George 1793...........

Thanks Derek for your thoughts on the George Tattersalls. I've got Robert, the father of George b 1793 as being born in Baslow in 1753, where did you get him being born in 1770?

Have you got any more info on the George who died in Radford in 1845?

Regards

Kath

Edit
Where did you find the record of the marriage of George Tattersall to Mary Marsden detailing his parents?

Hi Derek,

You said I would be back........and here I am.
Just a straightforward one for you this time.

Hoping you can confirm I have the correct children of William Rutland (b.abt 1741 and baptised at Osmaston) and Mary Bakewell b.1762 at Church Broughton). The couple married on 2 February 1785 at Sutton-on-the-Hill.

Their son Thomas (b.1790 in Longford) was my 4 x great grandfather. Am trying to confirm names of his siblings. I have a potential Dolly 1785, John 1792, Mary 1798, Joseph 1803, Elizabeth 1804 and George 1806. Suspect all would have been born in Longford.

I have seen trees showing William Rutland and mother unknown (but possibly Sarah Wright) in Derbyshire and need to confirm I have the correct children for my William and Mary.

Thanks for your help, know I can count on you as always

Susan :-D

Derek Report 23 May 2012 23:50

Hello Susan..William Rutland born 1741???? i have found several rampant old goats during the course of my researches..but to be fathering children at the age of 65.is a bit much in those times!

I suggest that WILLIAM RUTLAND was baptised at Osmaston by Asbourne 22.11.1764..son of Walter (entered as Water in Pr's)..he married MARY BAKEWELL as you say 02.02.1785 at Sutton on the Hill.......

Mary was the son of John and Hannah, baptised Church Broughton 14.08.1762........

The children of William and Mary..all born at Longford were as follows:-

Dolly 29.08.1785
Thomas 12.01.1790
John 24.10.1792
Mary 20.05.1797..died 06.06.1797
Mary 22.04.1798
Joseph 28.02.1802
Elizabeth 07.0.1804
George 07.09.1806

These are all children of William Rutland.becasue that far back all you got was the father's name.I don't actually like assumptions..but in this case i thin you can assume that Mary was the mother..being the only appropriate marriage in the whole of Derbyshire........

I'll try and find William's parents by looking for a marriage of "Walter2

will get back to you.
EDIT:-..The only marriage of a WALTER RUTLAND in an appropriate time scale is that to ANN HOOSON at Brailsford 17.08.1762..very close to all the other action!!........confirmed by Brailsford PR's......
.
further Edit....it was WALTER that was born 1741!!!!!!!!!!!!!..Baptised St Oswald Ashbourne 04.04.1741.son of Thomas....married Ann Hooton and was the father of William!!........just as well that I am at least as bright as you think i am!! lol
Derek.

lilliesnan Report 24 May 2012 15:14

Hi Derek...........you are correct as usual, my mistake.....it was Walter born 1741 and not William. Even if he was as an agricultural labourer (as the rest of my family) eating as much fresh veggies as he could muster it would be a bit of a miracle to be fathering a child at 65......... good job you have got your wits about you. lol

Many thanks for taking the time to check for me and confirming the dates, its much appreciated. I can now be sure I have the right children.

Have a lovely day and enjoy the "summer" while it lasts. I suspect I will be back soon, don't know how we would solve our problems without your knowledge and kindness

Again many thanks
Susan

Hi Derek,

Need your help again please. I have found 11 children for Robert Broomhead c1872 Unstone Derbyshire and his wife Jane Ann Key c1872 Barlow Derbyshire.

I have the birth & baptism dates for 6 of them from the IGI, all at Barlow, Robert 1894
Sarah 1895
Annie1897
Nellie 1899
Hilda 1900
Rosa 1902
but cannot find the baptisms for the following

Elsie Broomhead c1893
Lena c1905
Dulcie 1907
Jenny 1908
Mary 1910

I thought perhaps 1905 onwards may be too late but expected to find Elsie's, could you check your discs please for Barlow and see what you can find. Thank you

Chrissie

Derek Report 28 May 2012 22:50

Hello Chrissie..nice to hear from you again. i have loads of stuff on the earier Broomheads..but no PR's for the 20th century.

The probable reason for your not having DOBS for the later children is that they appear only to have CIVIL REGISTRATION for Births at Chesterfield District..I'd nee to go to Matlock to get the exact dates....
I do have ELSIE baptised 0.08.1893..but the best i can do for the rest is as follows:-
Hilda march 1901 Chesterfield
Rosa december 1902 Chesterfield
Lena June 1905 Chesterfield
DULCIE 14.01.1907 Barlow (I have a picture of her)
Jenny June 1908 Chesterfield
Mary March 1910 Chesterfield
William (Bill) Broomhead 22.01.1914 Chesterfield died 1994 Derby.

You may or may not know that ROBERT BROOMHEAD. the very prolific father of this family , died in a mining accident 02.02.1914 aged 41.........

I also have one or two marriages for some of these peeps.....

Hi Derek,

Thank you so much for such a quick reply. I wasn't aware of the mining accident but since your reply I have found the details by doing a search on google.

I will have to have a look at what else you may be able to help me with.

Hi Derek,

How are you?
Hoping you might be able to help me, I'm looking for the birth of Thomas Morrall abt 1780 he married Elizabeth Fox 1804 in Stanton by Dale and died in 1861 aged 81yrs.

Thank you for any help you can give.

Wendy.

Derek

Derek Report 30 May 2012 23:00

Hello Wendy.I don't have the Stanton by Dale records.........but am due a visit to Matlock..so I'll have a look.
I think you probably got your facts from the IGI Family Search site..which shows the same information you have given me......also shows the marriage to Elizabeth Fox 31.10.1804.
Both entries are submitted and therefore dubious..made more so because the marriage does not appear in the ever so reliable Phillimore Marriage Transcriptions for that Parish..
I'll have a sniff around.

Derek.

Hi Derek,

Thank you for getting back to me so quick as I know how busy you are.
I did get the marriage first off the I.G.I but then did mange to get to Matlock a few years ago and got a copy of the marriage it was at Stanton By Dale it says Thomas Morral of this Parish and Elizabeth Fox of Risley married in this Church by Banns 31 October 1804 witnesses were Isaac Brentnall and Elizabeth Morral (maybe mother or sister). Looks like they all signed with their own hands no X's.

I have done all of his children I'm descendant form his daughter Jane born 1813 but now would like to work back from him if possible and to find out who Elizabeth Morral was.

I'll have to try and get to Matlock one day but have been very busy here in Nottingham.

With best regards

Wendy

Derek Report 3 Jun 2012 12:02

Wendy..have you any clue that Thomas Morral might have been born in Nottingham??..........I have found what might be a brother and sister..Thomas and Elizabeth at East Bridgford. Clutching at straws, but I've been trawling the records to find a possible brother and sister.

I've seen your Tree on Ancestry, and very impressive it is,,,,,and of course it has been copied and/or filched by many others..............but nobody has any parents for Thomas.

I spend some of my time upsetting people who have obviously copied whole blocks of other trees..\i write and tell them, where i know there are glaring mistakes that have simply been perpetuated.
My own mother is buried in three separate US States!!...I personally interred her ashes in Bristol UK!!

You have to accept that going that far back you will be very lucky to get any further cast iron evidence....most of it is guess-work...which I try to avoid.

Derek.

Nottsgirl Report 3 Jun 2012 14:05

Hi Derek,

Thank you for your thoughts on my tree. I have a number of trees on Ancestry but they do all link up. I know what you mean about people copying trees, I myself do not copy trees but if I found any with the same people ones me I always check the facts against actual records and if i cannot find any I do not add the ancestors to my trees. I cannot understand why so called researchers add to their trees without check the facts, I recently found a number of trees with an Elizabeth Green from East Bridgford having married and living in the usa and being buried there but in fact she lived all her life in East Bridgford having married her sisters widowed husband.

Anyway back to Thomas Morral all I have on him is in Stanton by Dale and I have rechecked the census's and he always put Stanton down as his birth place.

I'll have a look at the East Bridgford one you mentioned and see if I can find anything on him before ruling him out.

I did find on the following site a list about settlement certificates for Stanton saying
BSC1 John Morrall, Mary wife, Sarah, Jane Netherseal 1776
dont' know what a BSC1 is.
(Edit: 14:18: Just found on Familysearch a marriage for John Morrall & Mary Oxley at Sandiacre on 29 Nov 1774 so wonder if its the same John and Mary above)

http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~spire/Yesterday/SettlementCertificatesS.htm

So wonder if this John and Mary are Thomas parents.

Thank you for your help.
All the best
Wendy

Hi Derek,
I may have misunderstood entirely - it's an age thing, in which case tell me to butt out, but the marriage of Thomas Morral and Elizabeth Fox definately does appear on my Philmores CD, as does that of John Morrall and Mary Oxley. note John has 2 L's but Tom only the one.

Hi Warwick,

Its Wendy here, I also found them on Phillimore on http://www.uk-genealogy.org.uk/
site.

I'm now thinking that Thomas is the son of John & Mary Morral.
Morral can be a number of ways Morral, Morrall, Morrel, Morrell, Morrill and Morrill.

Hi Derek,

Do you have amongst your collection a birth date or baptism date for Charlotte Mary Martin born in Derby 1875. She married Willam James McFarlane in Derby about 1901. There are a few skeletons in the cupboard with this one, as he left her and set up another family. His other family never new their parents were never married, as my Charlotte would never give him a divorce.
Any help would be great.

Derek Report 3 Jun 2012 23:59

Hello Julie..i don't have the Pr's to hand..but can tell you that her birth was registered in Derby October 1875..she appears on the 1881/1891/1901 censuses living with parents Isaac and Frances and several siblings.

She married.William Mcfarlane shortly after the 1901 Census and they are still together at 59 Spring Street Derby on the 1911 census.........they have five children..of which one (Alice) strangely is listed as being born in Dublin Ireland???? the rest (one before and three after) were born on Derby.
I'll look further..

Derek.
