I hope that someone can help solve this one please.
In 01 Jan 1892 edition of Reynolds Newspaper, there is a court report re my gt grandfather Orlando Powell summoned to answer a case brought by Martha Reeves of Leyton, basically for maintenace for their illigitimate child.
I have found a Martha Eliza Reeve born in 1867 in Bethnal Green, who appears living with her mother at various addresses in Leyton through until the 1911 census, but no record of the child. The 1911 census is marked no children. Any ideas how the identity of the child; sex unknown; can be found?

Is the Martha Eliza Reeve you found in 1911 married ?

I thought the question of children was only asked of married women ?

HI Catherine. Yes ths is the one I have assumed to be the lady in question. I seem to recall that Alice Tong is the daughter of one of her married sisters.

Anthony

Anthony Report 12 Oct 2012 21:24

Anthony Report 12 Oct 2012 21:31

Hi PollyPoppet

Yes this is him again. He appeared twice on the 1901 census once with his wife Annetta and just down the road with Mebel and Isabella. By luck I seem to have matched Mabel as Mabel Sawyer and her sister Isabel as Isabel Sawyer born Carlisle and Co Durham respectively and identical ages. Again here I find no trace of the child albeit there was an Orlando born suthwark about this time but parentage proved to be someone else. I guess the child here may have just been a figment of imagination??

I bow to your superior memory, 22 months is a long time. I always double check the list of threads I have before posting anything and couldn't find any previous record. However, I may have broached the subject with Anthony Adolf?
