Catherine

Seen the entries you refer to, unfortunately the trail goes cold thereafter. I wonder what the likelihood is of the father's name being on the birth certificate? Thanks once again..

Anthony

Please look at the link I gave

I don't normally remember what I did the day before but the name Orlando stuck out for me

My apologies. Checked the link and although this issue was not part of the initial subject of that thread, I see that this info; new at the time, was mentioned by me as a side issue within that thread. If I had recalled that, I would of course not have opened this thread. However, Caroline did find a 99.9% link.

I am not disputing that the person you were looking for may have been found....its the fact that the helpers on this thread have wasted their time giving you info that you had been given before.

Whatever the question was, you should have stuck to the one thread....after all it was titled Orlando Powell

I have already apologised for my oversight and said had I realised that I had already mentioned the current subject in a previous thread about Orlando Powell I would not have opened the new thread. What more can I say, apart from I wont use the boards again, or should I just cancel my GR membership???

Re Catherine's find, I have done searches on Ancestry for Caroline Reeves born c 13 March 1890 and apart from the original reference doc of Bethnal Green Workhouse, I have not found any further record. Could anyone please advise me if it is possible to search for the census of the workhouse as opposed for an individual and where one can examine the actual workhouse records. Thank you.

The London Metropolitan Archives holds some records for Bethnal Green Workhouse.

ChristinaS Report 19 Oct 2012 22:04

What it is you have that shows Martha and Caroline? I can't find it. The only Reeves I can see for 13th March 1890 is female born illegitamately in this house to Carole Reeves of 5, Hay Nicholl Street born 1878. Both discharged 29/3/1890

That's what it looks like to me, but that can't be right, as it makes the mother 12 years old.

This is from the Poor Law Records for Bethnal Green (religious creed) on Ancestry.

It's okay - I can see now that it came from London Births and Baptism.

So the entry in the workhouse book doesn't really make any sense.

If you are claiming you can't remember posting before, why does this thread have the suffix 2 in the title?

The numbers were added today Reggie

This may have been it...I did'nt notice the title of this one, only that the other one Was titled Orlando Powell

jax Report 19 Oct 2012 23:10

Although that baptiism gives the mother as Martha, there is no mention of her on the image??

The list of names including the name Caroline on the baptism are the mothers...not the children by the looks of it, as every name is female even though some of the children were male

Yes I see what you mean, the chidren are only referred to by their sex. I hadn't noticed that or the heading of the column with the names; that does say 'parent' I wonder where the printed report gets Martha from?

I note that the England & Wales, FreeBMD Birth Index, 1837-1915 has reference of Caroline's registration 1st quarter of 1890 at Bethnal Green ref 1c281 as referred to by Catherine. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and send off for a copy of the cert even though it may be a waste of money? Thanks for your patience.

Anthony,

So this is the same child mentioned in the link I gave you above. Did you look at it?
I'm interested to know if you think it looks like the mother was 12 years old. Do you suppose it should be 1868 and not 1878?

What information does it give in the Reynolds' Newspaper article?

Does it give the name of the court? Or childs birth date?

If not, it may be worth looking at the bastardy records (if they still exist) for more detail.
