AustinQ Report 21 Oct 2016 09:13

I'm hoping the paper has the information wrong about TWO children. I don't see any reference anywhere else to another child.

Gloucester Citizen - Saturday 27 February 1943

Gloucester County Petty Sessions

For failing to send her child to school, Queenie Gore of Parton Lane, Churchdown was fined 10/-. Leon Mason, School Attendance Officer said that the boy had not attended school since January 4th.

That made me laugh.....I did all I could not to attend school. I too, joined the army at 16.
I only have my dad's wedding certificate which states he married Maureen Winifred Cox 23rd October 1954 aged 22 and Maureen was 19.
Maureen told us that she had met Derek as he was leaving the army.
He was a machine setter at the point of marriage, living at 18 Kings Orchard, Parton Lane, Churchdown. Maureen was stationed at RAF Innsworth, Churchdown.
Where it states name and surname of groom, it says John Derek Gore. When he signs at the bottom, he put Derek John Gore.......Queenie Gore is a witness.
Father of John Derek Gore is listed as Ronald Gore (Pilot Officer, Royal Air Force)
Would be interesting to find any newspaper articles about my mum, Maureen as I don't think she is squeeky clean either.
I'm still very confused as to how I can get the correct birth certificate for my dad. I have ordered the one for Ronald Gore born 1922 in Winchcombe.

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 21 Oct 2016 10:12

Morning Kevin,

I think Derek was in fact born Ronald 1931- the illegitimate child of Queenie Gore

name(s) RONALD GORE
Birth year 1931
Birth quarter 2
Mother's last name GORE
District WINCHCOMB
County Gloucestershire
Country England
Volume 6A Page 576

Although he is listed as Derek on the electoral register with Maureen, he's later listed as Ronald (we think) when he moves back with Queenie in the 1960s.

Lots of people lied about fathers on marriage certificates- especially if they didn't one!

I think the next step would be to get the birth certificate of Ronald born 1931.

For some reason, the first couple of my posts which gave all the info at the beginning, seems to have disappeared!

I can't quite remember how many children we thought Queenie had.

Perhaps this is Queenie's second child..........

27 July 1946 - Gloucester Journal - Gloucester, Gloucestershire, England

GLOUCESTER PORTER TOOK OWN LIFE
When the inquest was held at Gloucester on Monday on Rupert Eric Gore (32), who was found gassed at the Ryecroft Hostel, Ryecroft Street, where he was employed as a night porler, it was stated by his brother, Harold Archibald, that the dead man had been "rather strange" after fracturing his skull in a cycling accident some years ago.
Robert Rowland Owens who resided at Ryecroft Hostel, gave evidence that on the morning of Friday, July 19th, he found Gore lying dead in the kitchen at the hostel with his head in one of the gas ovens. A note which was identified as being on Gore's hand-writing, was on the kitchen table.
Dr H Brayshaw said that Gore's death was due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
The City Coroner recorded a verdict that Gore took his like while the balance of his mind was disturbed.

Oh, another early death:

Queenie's sister Beatrice Ivy, married George Busson in 1926 and died in 1936.

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 21 Oct 2016 13:19

PH- I have to go out shortly, but I was just looking through the enormous thread that you posted at the beginning of this one. I'm not understanding all of it and haven't got to the end yet, but this caught my eye:

"I have just phone Pat again...Ok so a few facts (according to pat)

She [Yvonne] also had a sister who she knew as Queenie (I dont think this is her real name though)

Queenie got married to unknown by pat and had a daughter called DAPHNY (i think its how you spell it- its pronounced "Daff-ney")
Quennie's husband died when pat was little.

They all lived/live in cheltenham/ glouster area (once again i am sorry for my poor spelling)

I am presuming that Daphny was born around the time of pat??"
------------------------------------------------

Then looking through possible Daphne Births I couldn't see a Daphne Gore maiden name Gore, but did see a 1950 birth with maiden name Knight (I think she used her Mum's maiden name to register it). This Daphne married surname Bishop, and is on the 2013 electoral register living in Gloucester.

I hope that makes sense- trying to be careful incase of living people.

Kevin Report 21 Oct 2016 13:36

This is fun guys.....got to laugh at some of the antics. I didn't think I was going to find a family of good people.
AustinQ.....trying to work out where William Brain ended up.....he married Queenie in !958 but as you stated, the ER in 1960 only show Ronald and Queenie. William Brain didn't die until 1971 in Gloucester.
I will order the birth certificate for Ronald Gore 1931 however this certificate would make John Derek Gore 23 when he married. Could that also be a lie considering he was in the army which I would think had strict rules on ages.

Can anybody continue the newspaper searches.....my mum said that when she returned to Gloucester in 1967, she put adverts in the local papers to find us. We never left Gloucester and were living with foster parents called Annette and Gordon Meadows residing at Nelson Street, then Honiet Road then Longford Lane. Before we were fostered, we had dysentery and were in the hospital side of the local workhouse.
How did we come to leave John Derek Gore aka Ronald. Surely, if Queenie was newly wed and already 48, she wouldn't have wanted to take us on.
With regards to the newspaper reports.....our names are Kevin Michael 1958, Carol Ann 1955 and Christopher Stephen 1957. Christopher was adopted by 1960 to a family called Smith who were friends with Annette and Gordon Meadows.

Dea Report 21 Oct 2016 16:22

Just a though Kevin - are you still in touch with your foster parents, or Christopher with his adoptive family ?

Are there any records available through Social Services perhaps?

Christopher would be entitled to see his adoption file - might throw up some clues?
