Thankyou for your reply

Do you mean The Archives Nottingham if so you need to be a member there

Once I can find the dates I’m looking I’m sure Central Library will have them there
Thankyou again

ArgyllGran Report 12 Sep 2019 21:39

You won't find their baptism dates online - we've looked.

Perhaps the library/records office/archives staff might be able to figure it out from their birth dates, which you do have.

Olive - you need to read the sections re Accessing Archives at Nottingham.

Most records are available for general access. To look at Original archive material (microfiche are not original) you need an Inspire Library card - the info below will tell you what documents you need.

ArgyllGran Report 12 Sep 2019 21:54

Re Nottingham Archives -

apparently you only need to be a member (ie - have a card ) if you go there in person to look at records.

You don't seem to need to be a member to ask them to look things up for you, by email or letter - although there is a charge for that:

Do you not have their Birth Certificates?...(to get correct Birthdates)

Chris :)

Edits (these (1939) posted on page 1, by Shirley)

Harry Cooke 25 Dec 1878 Sheet Metal Worker (Director)
Olive Cooke 25 Sep 1882 Unpaid Domestic Duties

(above was useful with your other Notts. queries)

(now sees safc has found Harry Baptism, on other 'Thread'!)

(looking on above link, can see James Taylor, and Walter Francis Taylor Baptisms, Pym Street, Sneinton 1891, no daughters though)

Olive Jean Report 13 Sep 2019 06:57

Yes I have 1939 register and that states 25 th December for both grandparents
Which all us grandchildren thought their birth dates were
The birth certificates won’t tell us the Baptisms
For them
Anyway thankyou all for all your efforts
I will go again to Nottingham Central Library and look again on BMD records
Thankyou all agian

Olive, the 1939 states September for Jean!...(apologies!, Dec. written on image!)

You need the Birth Baptism, but, they don't always give a Birthdate either...

Going to Library won't really help, there isn't looking to be a Baptism for her, as I said above James and Walter Francis can be found on below, no Olive.

(and James has a birthdate, but not given for Walter)

(click on above, free to use at home!)

Chris :)

(Certificates bought from above, you need to register, if you haven't already done so)

Stephen Report 8 Jan 2020 11:00

I have just come across this conversation today.
I am the son of Betty Andrews (Hebblethwaite), grandson of Gwendolen Hebblethwaite (Cooke) and nephew of Peter Hebblethwaite. I have a photograph of Peter before he went to Canada in his Nottingham Police Uniform.
Is Harry Cooke the same Harold Cooke, Gwendolen's brother, that married Winifred Townsend in 1938??

I would love to exchange information with folks about this. As it happens I also live about three miles from Hucknall Library.

Hope to hear from you all. Regards Steve Andrews

Hi Stephen.
Welcome to the boards.

She'll be notified there is a message waiting for her and can then retrieve it and reply direct to you.

ArgyllGran Report 8 Jan 2020 11:27

Welcome to the boards, Steve.

If you mean the Harry Cooke (1878) who married Olive Taylor in 1903 and who is still with her in 1939 (records posted on this page as well as earlier in this thread) - then no, he can't be the same one.

Stephen Report 8 Jan 2020 17:46

My Harold Cooke was born on the 7th of August 1897 in Gainsborough and Winifred on the 31st of March 1894. I think, but don't know for definite, that Winifred was his second wife.

It seemed quite a coincidence that Peter Hebblethwaite is the nephew of a Harold (Harry) Cooke, and that a Vera Wilson went to Canada with him for some reason unless they are related, but it does appear at the moment to be a coincidence..

ErikaH Report 8 Jan 2020 17:58

Harry Cooke is a very common name, but the answer is to do the research

Presumably, Hebblethwaite's mother was a Cooke before her marriage

Find her on censuses and see who is in the same household

Alternatively, purchase a copy of the 1938 marriage cert to find out Harry's father's name - and whether or not he had been married previously

The 1939 census posted above is not for the people you are connected with
