Middy Report 18 Aug 2018 10:47

Hi All

Trying to find some relatives (funnily enough) but am a little bit stumped -
I have the B/Cert for Celia Jane Whitehead - born 1866 (Hythe in Kent) baptised in Lyminge in Kent - but I cannot find her on any census apart from the 1891 with her husband - OR - her parents Eliza and Thomas anywhere

Would anyone be able to help?

Thanks

greyghost Report 18 Aug 2018 11:09

Her birth registration for our info - the RD of Elham covers Hythe

Name: Mother's Maiden Surname: Order:
WHITEHEAD, CELIA JANE MARTED Order
GRO Reference: 1866 J Quarter in ELHAM Volume 02A Page 793 Order

not finding another birth with mmn Marted or similar 1860-1870

What details does the Birth certificate give for her parents ? full names, occupations, address at time and her actual DoB

For our information only - is this Celia with her husband:-

Have we looked at this family before as I have viewed the record before according to Findmypast?

I can't find her in earlier census records either.

Hi All

Many thanks for looking for me:

The B/Cert confirms the mothers maiden name as I thought it said Masted so could be Marted - the father was an agricultural labourer - the DOB is 4/3/1866 - no address on the certificate

Thanks

You say her parents were Eliza and Thomas.

But the marriage record posted by DetEcTive on the other thread ( 13 Aug 2017 @ 14:07) says her father was William.

I don't see a Whitehead/Marted (or variation) marriage.

The marriage record copied again here for ease:

ChristinaS Report 1 Sep 2017 17:25

Hi, I'm late with joining this thread. Started at the beginning so I'm going back to Celia Whitehead.

On 27th August, Andrew posted the 1871 census for Celia with parents William and Eliza Choke.

In the 1841 and 1851 censuses, Thomas Whitehead born 1820 in Monks Horton, was in Maidstone prison for theft.

In 1857 Eliza Whitehead and her children: James 13; Egerton 9 and William 6 entered St.Martin's workhouse.

So I thought it more likely that Celia's father was William Choke rather than Thomas.

Middy Report 2 Sep 2017 13:43

Hi Christina - thanks for your thoughts

I think I may then have a wrong birth certificate - the marriage certificate that I have I know is correct and this does confirm her fathers name as William

The only thing is I could only find one birth for a Celia Whitehead?

Thanks

ChristinaS
ChristinaS Report 2 Sep 2017 17:09

You probably have the correct birth certificate. Thomas Whitehead would likely have been named as the father as Celia's mother was still married to him.

The marriage certificate shows that Thomas was born in 1820, with a father James.

There's a Thomas Whitehead born 1820 in Monks Horton with father James. This one fits the Thomas Whitehead who was in Maidstone prison.
